The Miracles

For releases by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles or their variations, please refer to The Miracles with the appropriate artist name variation.

The Miracles, one of Motown's pioneering groups, originated at a school in Detroit in 1955 under the name The Five Chimes. A year later, they rebranded themselves as The Matadors, incorporating Claudette Rogers into their lineup. Their talent was recognized by Berry Gordy, who discovered them during an audition in late 1957. In February 1958, they officially became The Miracles. Their debut single, "Got A Job" b/w "My Mama Done Told Me," was released that same month through the End label. Following this, they put out another single with End, as well as one on Chess, before finally settling at Motown's Tamla label, where they achieved a series of hits and Smokey Robinson emerged as a prominent songwriter for the label throughout the 1960s.

In late 1965, Berry Gordy made the decision to rebrand the group, leading to the name Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. Despite the new billing, the ensemble remained the same until Smokey departed in July 1972, although their last single under this name was not released until November of that year. Following Smokey's exit, Billy Griffin joined the group, and they reverted to the name The Miracles for the new lineup.

The Miracles continued with Motown until 1976, during which they scored a number one hit in the US with "Love Machine" in 1975. The group then transitioned to Columbia Records in 1976.

Members of The Miracles included: - William "Smokey" Robinson (1955–1972) - Ronald "Ronnie" White (1955–1983; 1993–1995) - Warren "Pete" Moore (1955–1978) - Clarence Dawson (1955) - James Grice (1955) - Emerson Rogers (1956) - Robert "Bobby" Rogers (1956–1983; 1993–2013) - Claudette Rogers (Robinson) (1956–1964) - Billy Griffin (1972–1978; late 1990s) - Dave Finley (1978–1983; 1993–present) - Sidney Justin (1993–c.2000) - Tee Turner (1996–present) - Mark Scott (2005–2008) - Alphonse Franklin (2008-present)

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album

International Buyers: We charge $7 for the first record and $2 a record thereafter for Domestic Shipping in the continental United States. This only includes shipping to the International hub here in the United States. Please carefully review the total shipping and VAT charges for your order before committing to a purchase, which will be different from what we are able to view or control on the US eBay site.
