Thad Jones
An American trumpeter, cornetist, French horn player, composer, and arranger, he was born on March 28, 1923, in Pontiac, Michigan, and passed away from cancer on August 21, 1986, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was part of a musical family; his elder brother was the pianist, while his younger brother was the renowned drummer Elvin Jones.
He began his musical career at the age of sixteen with the Arcadia Club Band. In 1941, he joined Connie Connell's band, and from 1943 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he played with the band of Charles Young from around 1946 to 1948, and he later led his own quintet in Detroit. His career continued to flourish as he performed with various bands, including those of musicians such as Jimmy Taylor, and he regularly played at the Blue Bird Inn in Detroit from 1952 to 1954.
In 1954, he joined Count Basie's orchestra, where he performed alongside other notable artists. After leaving the Basie Orchestra, he worked briefly as a staff arranger for CBS in 1963. He co-led a group from 1965 to 1978 and also led the Jazz Workshop while teaching at the Royal Conservatory. In 1980, he conducted a Jazz Seminar in Barcelona, Spain. In 1985, he rejoined the Basie Orchestra, which had transitioned into a posthumous 'ghost' band.

The Fabulous Thad Jones - The Fabulous Thad Jones With Frank Wess, Hank Jones, John Dennis, Charles Mingus, Kenny Clarke, Max Roach on Fantasy F-2153 6004 Red Vinyl EX - This is such a superb record, the record has been cleaned using ultrasonic technology and is in a strong EX/EX condition bordering on NM. If this was ever played, they knew what they were doing, it looks beautiful.. the red translucent vinyl is gorgeous. The cover is very nice and crisp, still has the shrink wrap, only an EX because of age!

- Records are packaged with a plastic sleeve, the LP is in its inner sleeve (or a fresh white one if the original is sketchy, we send you both), separate from the cover and shipped within inserts in a standard cardboard record mailer

SEALED:
Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.
Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.
NM (Near Mint):
Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.
EX (Excellent):
Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.
Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.
VG++ (Very Good Plus Plus):
Vinyl: Visible wear, hairlines, and scuffs, but retains luster and plays with minimal noise.
Sleeve: Noticeable wear, corner dings, and possible fading, but no seam splits.
VG+ (Very Good Plus):
Vinyl: Obvious wear and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.
Sleeve: Worn with creases, chipping, and possible seam wear.
Here's the SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy.
VG (Very Good):
Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, plays with persistent noise but no skips.
Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ringwear.
VG- (Very Good Minus):
Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.
Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.
G+ (Good Plus):
Vinyl: Many marks, somehow plays without skipping despite significant noise.
Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, possible large seam splits.
