Stacy Lattisaw

R'n'B, dance, and pop singer Stacy Lattisaw was born on November 25, 1966, in Washington, D.C., U.S. Throughout her career, she released ten albums from 1979 to 1990, with seven produced under Cotillion Records and three under Motown. After this period, Lattisaw chose to step away from the pop industry to focus on gospel music.

Lattisaw made her recording debut at the age of 12, with her initial album produced by Van McCoy. For her subsequent albums, from the second to the sixth, Narada Michael Walden assumed the role of producer. Her seventh album featured production from Michael Masser. During her time at Motown, a diverse array of producers worked on her projects, including Kashif, John "Jellybean" Benitez, Steve Barri, Tony Peluso, Leon Sylvers, Brownmark, Vincent Brantley, Aaron Zigman, Jerry Knight, Ron Kersey, Lou Pace, Gordon Williams, Phillip Damien, Hubert Eaves III, Kenni Hairston, Trevor Gale, and LeMel Humes.

In 1986, Lattisaw released an entire album of duets with Johnny Gill, and the two collaborated on two additional singles in 1989. She achieved notable crossover success with hits such as "Jump To The Beat," which peaked at No. 3 in the U.K. and No. 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance chart. Among her most significant entries on the R'n'B charts were "Dynamite" (No. 8, 1980), "Let Me Be Your Angel" (No. 8, 1980), her rendition of the Moments' classic "Love On A Two Way Street" (No. 2, 1981), and Gary Benson's "Don't Throw It All Away" (No. 9, 1982). She also found success with "Nail It To The Wall" (No. 4 on R'n'B, No. 2 Dance, 1986) and her duet with Johnny Gill, "Where Do We Go From Here," which reached No. 1.

Lattisaw's repertoire includes several notable covers, such as "When You're Young And In Love" by the Marvelettes (1979), "Love Is Here Beside Us" by Peaches & Herb (1979), "Spinning Top" (1979), "Dedicated To The One I Love" by the Shirelles, and Petula Clark's "Downtown" (1979). She covered "Guys Like You (Give Love A Bad Name)" by Donna Washington (1982), "I've Loved You Somewhere Before" by Eloise Laws (1983), and "Baby It's You," a duet with Johnny Gill (1984). Other covers include "Love Me Like The First Time" by Brenda K. Starr (1986), "One More Night" by Donna Washington (1986), and the iconic duet "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" with Howard Hewett (1988). In 1990, she released "I Don't Have The Heart," a track originally by James Ingram, which reached No. 1.

In addition to her studio recordings, Lattisaw contributed to the soundtrack for "Police Academy 4: Citizens On Patrol" in 1987 with the song "Dancin' Up A Storm." Notably, her single "Attack Of The Name Game" (1982) was sampled in the album version of Mariah Carey's No. 1 hit "Heartbreaker" in 1999.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album

International Buyers: We charge $7 for the first record and $2 a record thereafter for Domestic Shipping in the continental United States. This only includes shipping to the International hub here in the United States. Please carefully review the total shipping and VAT charges for your order before committing to a purchase, which will be different from what we are able to view or control on the US eBay site.
