Nirvana

Nirvana

Nirvana was a rock and grunge band hailing from Aberdeen, Washington, USA, established in 1987. As a key player in the Seattle grunge scene that flourished in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Nirvana emerged as a powerful trio that introduced a fresh aesthetic to the rock music landscape. The band released their debut album, "Bleach," through Sub Pop, but it was their 1991 major-label release, "Nevermind," via DGC/Geffen Records, that propelled both the band and the grunge movement into the American mainstream. The band came to an abrupt end following the death of lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain by suicide in April 1994.

Nirvana's history includes a series of name changes, listed chronologically as follows: 1. Skid Row (March 1987 - June 26, 1987) 2. Pen Cap Chew (June 27, 1987 - August 8, 1987) 3. Bliss (August 9, 1987 - January 1988) 4. Ted Ed Fred (January 1988 - March 18, 1988) 5. Nirvana (March 19, 1988 - April 5, 1994)

There are unverified rumors of two additional names, Throat Oyster and Windowpane, that were reportedly used briefly before settling on Nirvana.

The final lineup consisted of: - Kurt Cobain – lead guitar, lead vocals (March 1987 - April 5, 1994; passed away on April 5, 1994) - Krist Novoselic – bass (March 1987 - April 5, 1994), accordion (1993–1994) - Dave Grohl – drums, backing vocals (September 25, 1990 - April 5, 1994) - Pat Smear – rhythm guitar, backing vocals (September 23, 1993 - April 5, 1994)

Former members included: - Aaron Burckhard – drums (March 1987 - October 1987) - Dale Crover – drums (December 1987 - February 15, 1988; August 10, 1990 - August 25, 1990), backing vocals (1988) - Dave Foster – drums (February 16, 1988 - May 24, 1988) - Chad Channing – drums (May 25, 1988 - June 1990) - Jason Everman – rhythm guitar, backing vocals (February 5, 1989 - July 19, 1989) - Dan Peters – drums (June 1990 - August 1990; September 1990 - September 24, 1990)

The band also featured various touring musicians, including Robert Roth (guitar, August 1989), Ben Shepherd (guitar, September 26-28, 1989), John Duncan (guitar, July 15-31, 1993), Lori Goldston (cello, July 15, 1993 - January 8, 1994), and Melora Creager (cello, February 5, 1994 - April 5, 1994).

Session musicians who contributed to their music included Mark Pickerel (drums, 1989), Kirk Canning (cello, 1991), and Kera Schaley (cello, 1993). Live guest musicians included Tony Poukkula and Ryan Aigner (both on guitar in 1987), and Antony Hodgkinson (also known as Dancing Tony), who performed as a dancer during the years 1990, 1991, and 1992.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album

This only includes shipping to the International hub here in the United States. Please carefully review the total shipping and VAT charges for your order before committing to a purchase, which will be different from what we are able to view or control on the US eBay site.
