Nicola Arigliano

**Nicola Arigliano** *Italian Singer*

Born on December 6, 1923, in Squinzano, Lecce, Puglia, Italy, Nicola Arigliano established himself as a prominent figure in the Italian music scene. He passed away on March 30, 2010, in Calimera, Lecce, Puglia, Italy.

Arigliano's career began in the bustling nightclubs of Northern Italy, where he attracted the attention of a television producer. This led to his debut in sketches and musical performances for various variety shows. His early recordings, which date back to 1956, were predominantly 78 rpm discs featuring Neapolitan songs, released under Italian RCA. With the transition to 45 rpm records on the Columbia label, he achieved his first major success with "Simpatica," a collaboration with Garinei, Giovannini, and Kramer.

In 1958, Arigliano participated in the popular show "Canzonissima" and gained further recognition in a program hosted by Lelio Luttazzi, where he was a regular guest alongside Mina in "Sentimentale." The show's title track became a hit, with both artists releasing their own versions. Meanwhile, Arigliano pursued his passion for jazz, performing at festivals, including the 1959 Festival del Jazz with Franco Cerri, and showcasing his distinct crooner style. During this period, he released several notable hits such as "Un giorno ti dirò," "Amorevole," "I sing ammore," "My wonderful bambina," and "I love you forestiera." These titles often featured bilingual lyrics, a common practice among songwriters in the late 1950s, intended to promote Italy's tourist appeal, similar to Renato Rascel's "Arrivederci Roma."

In 1963, Arigliano starred in another Saturday night program, "Il cantatutto," alongside Milva and Claudio Villa, where they exchanged repertoire and engaged in comedic sketches. He made an appearance at the Festival di Sanremo in 1964 with the song "Venti chilometri al giorno." Following this, he embarked on a successful career as an advertising spokesperson, which provided substantial financial returns, even as his musical engagements became less frequent due to generational shifts and the rise of the beat wave.

Surprisingly, Arigliano returned to television in 1977, appearing in several episodes of "Non stop," a cabaret show hosted by Enzo Trapani. In 1985, he released a live album titled "Mario Schiano presenta Nicola Arigliano al night club Il Sorpasso - Con l'orchestra I Primi." Notably, despite the title, Mario Schiano did not perform on the record; instead, he promoted musical events near Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, celebrating the PCI's electoral victory over the DC in 1984, which inspired the nightclub's name. The album featured prominent Italian jazz musicians, including Marc 4's keyboard player Antonello Vannucchi, drummer Gegè Munari, and double bassist Giorgio Rosciglione.

In 1996, Arigliano received the Premio Tenco for his album "I sing ancora." He followed this with the release of "Go man!" in 2001, a live album recorded in Milan that included contributions from notable Italian jazz musicians such as Franco Cerri, Enrico Rava, Gianni Basso, Bruno De Filippi, Renato Sellani, and Massimo Moriconi. At the age of 81, he became the oldest performer at the Festival di Sanremo in 2005, where he introduced the song "Colpevole," accompanied by Antonello Vannucchi and Franco Cerri, and won the Critics Prize.

During the summer of 2005, Arigliano restructured his band, opting for a lineup that featured accordion and guitar instead of piano. This innovative arrangement marked a particularly dynamic and productive phase in his career, earning him widespread acclaim. His final performance took place on September 8, 2007, during a career award ceremony held in his hometown of Squinzano, where he performed alongside a talented ensemble including Frank Antonucci on guitar, Reverendo Otis on double bass, Al Ventura on accordion, and Santi Isgrò on drums.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
