Jake

Jake

Jacob Dove Basker, born in 1970 in the Bronx, experienced a childhood that took him across various northern U.S. locations, including Moscow, Idaho, and Chicago. However, he considers Seattle to be his true home. At the age of 14, Jake performed his first concert in Spokane with a newly formed College-Punk band originating from Pullman, Washington.

In 1990, Jake left the United States to gain a different perspective on the First Gulf War initiated by the first Bush administration. Arriving with only $500, he managed to stretch his funds over six months, drawing inspiration from a Henry Miller-like lifestyle. During this time, he discovered the Hamburg Art College (Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg), where he studied until he earned an official certification as a bona fide artist. This qualification allowed him to briefly work as a New Media artist, although Jake has often embraced a variety of roles, including comic artist, tattoo artist, animator, and a blend of both nice guy and wise guy. Music has always been a central force in his life, guiding him along his unique journey.

Jake was part of several bands, including an art punk group reminiscent of Sonic Youth in Hamburg. He began rapping in 1992, initially under the mentorship of Die Patinnen, later collaborating with the Jonas Schoen Sextett and leading the jazz rap ensemble M.C. Eye & Blind Jazz. His freestyle skills were honed in the Hamburg hip-hop training camp known as Trainingslager. The cross-styling in his music began shortly thereafter, notably with beatboxer Mark Boombastik and Felix Kubin in his band Anaerobic Robots (Gagarin Records).

In 2005, Jake relocated to Berlin, marking a significant turning point in his career. He released a self-titled LP that blended hip hop, electro, and house music. His connection to Bar 25 began in 2006, where he became a resident and remained an integral part of the community until its closure. Throughout this period, he gained recognition as a prominent figure in the Berlin party scene, evolving into a beloved and eccentric deep house legend across Europe. Jake continues to tour extensively, sharing his eclectic and funky musical style along with his infectious energy. He now has a studio at Kater Holzig and frequently performs at venues such as Watergate, Arena, Ritterbutzke, Wilde Renate, Stadtbad Wedding, Sisyphos, and Chalet.

His discography includes notable tracks such as "Hollow Inside" and "Less Talking," along with collaborations with artists like Format B, Terranova, H.O.S.H., Alexander Kowalski, Channel X, and Oliver Koletzki, resulting in songs like "Something Suitable," "Snug Descent (I Love the Couch, Baby)," "50 Ways to Love Your Liver," and his recent release "Animal Instincts" with Sascha Braemer on Stil Vor Talent. Jake's performances are characterized by his ability to bridge old school and new school, house and techno, while maintaining a consistent energy on the dance floor, building anticipation, and delivering celebrated moments of release, all while exuding a calm demeanor and a joyful smile.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album

International Buyers: We charge $7 for the first record and $2 a record thereafter for Domestic Shipping in the continental United States. This only includes shipping to the International hub here in the United States. Please carefully review the total shipping and VAT charges for your order before committing to a purchase, which will be different from what we are able to view or control on the US eBay site.
