Malcolm John Rebennack, widely recognized by his stage name Dr. John, was born on November 20, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and passed away on June 6, 2019. He was an influential American singer and songwriter whose musical style intertwined elements of blues, pop, jazz, boogie woogie, and rock and roll.
Rebennack's musical journey began at the tender age of six when he started playing the piano. He was significantly influenced by the distinctive style of Roy Byrd, known as Professor Longhair. Immersing himself in the rich music and voodoo cultures of New Orleans, he gained recognition as Mac Rebennack, performing as an organist in strip clubs across the French Quarter.
His first major opportunity arose around 1957 when he worked as a session guitarist for John Vincent's Ace Records. He collaborated with the New Orleans R&B session team at Cosimo V. Matassa's studio and participated in the 'All For One' co-operative formed by Harold Battiste, contributing to projects such as "Storm Warning" (Rex, 1957) and various singles for Ace, Rex, and AFO (an acronym for All For One).
In 1962, Rebennack relocated to California with Battiste's crew, where they participated in Sam Cooke's final recording session. During this time, he engaged in extensive session work in Los Angeles, including a brief appearance on a Freak Out! album session with Frank Zappa. With Battiste's assistance, he developed his Mardi Gras persona as Dr. John Creaux, The Night Tripper, and produced the Gris-Gris album while collaborating with Sonny & Cher.
Upon the album's release in 1968, his distinctive drawled and ponderous vocal style, characterized by a husky Southern Comfort delivery, resonated with the cultural landscape of the time. This success afforded him the creative freedom to explore various aspects of Louisiana blues and Memphis funk in his subsequent recordings. Throughout his career, notable musicians such as Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Allen Toussaint, The Meters, Jerry Wexler, and Mike Bloomfield supported his work. He achieved a top-ten hit with "Right Place, Wrong Time" and made an appearance in Martin Scorsese's film The Last Waltz (1978).
Dr. John continued to tour and release music until his unexpected passing from a sudden heart attack on June 6, 2019.

- Record was initially cleaned manually, then ultrasonically cleaned with iSonic Ultrasonic Cleaning prior to grading
- Grading description below, done with The Vinyl Archivist photo examples in mind
- Records are packaged with a plastic sleeve, the LP is placed in a fresh white inner sleeve (we include the accompanying sleeve, we send you both), separate from the cover to protect the seams during shipment, and of course, shipped within inserts in a standard cardboard record mailer.

SEALED/Mint:
Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.
Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.
NM (Near Mint):
Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.
EX (Excellent):
Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.
Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.
VG+ (Very Good Plus):
Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.
Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.
Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.
VG (Very Good):
Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.
Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.
G+ (Good Plus):
Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.
Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.
G (Good):
Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.
Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.
F (Fair):
Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip
Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
