Dave Mason

Dave Mason

English singer-songwriter and guitarist, born on May 10, 1946, in Worcester, UK. In 2004, Mason was honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of Traffic. He is perhaps best known for the song "Feelin' Alright," which Traffic recorded in 1968 and which has since been covered by numerous artists, including Joe Cocker, whose rendition became a hit in 1969. Mason also penned the psychedelic pop track "Hole In My Shoe," which achieved its own success during the same era. His solo career yielded the 1977 hit "We Just Disagree," written by Jim Krueger, which remains a fixture on US classic hits and adult contemporary radio.

Throughout his career, Mason has collaborated with a range of prominent pop and rock musicians. His notable associations include Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones—most notably on "Street Fighting Man"—George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Steve Winwood, Fleetwood Mac, Delaney & Bonnie, Leon Russell, and Cass Elliot.

Mason's involvement with Traffic was marked by several departures and returns. He co-founded the band but left after the release of their debut album, "Mr. Fantasy," in 1967. He rejoined during the sessions for their second album, "Traffic," in 1968, only to leave again afterward. The compilation "Last Exit," released in 1969, features limited contributions from Mason, aside from his song "Just for You." Traffic later reformed without him, although he had a brief stint working with the band again in 1971, touring and contributing to "Welcome To The Canteen." Despite these collaborations, Steve Winwood noted that Mason never fully integrated into the group.

In 1970, Mason was set to be the second guitarist for Derek and the Dominos, participating in early studio sessions, including the Phil Spector-produced "Tell The Truth," which was later withdrawn and has since become a collector's item. He performed at the band's inaugural concert at the London Lyceum but departed shortly thereafter. Mason also had a brief tenure with Fleetwood Mac, releasing the album "Time" in 1995 and touring with the band from 1994 to 1995. In 2004, Mason established a new electric guitar company alongside business partner and industrial designer Ravi Sawhney.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album

International Buyers: We charge $7 for the first record and $2 a record thereafter for Domestic Shipping in the continental United States. This only includes shipping to the International hub here in the United States. Please carefully review the total shipping and VAT charges for your order before committing to a purchase, which will be different from what we are able to view or control on the US eBay site.
