Armando Trovaioli

Armando Trovajoli (born September 2, 1917, in Rome, Italy; died February 27, 2013, in Rome, Italy) was an esteemed Italian film composer and pianist, boasting over 300 credits as a composer and/or conductor throughout his career. He was married to the Italian actress and singer Pier Angeli. Trovajoli demonstrated exceptional musical talent from a young age, learning to play the violin as a child.

In 1937, he became a member of the Rocco Grasso orchestra and two years later, in 1939, he performed with one of Italy's most prominent jazz bands, led by Alberto Semprini. Following World War II, he revitalized his musical career, blending jazz with light music. Trovajoli furthered his education by graduating in piano and composition from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome in 1948. The following year, he represented Italy at the Festival du Jazz de Paris, where he collaborated with double bassist Marco Ratti and drummer Enzo Serafin.

In 1950, he began a notable series of recordings entitled "Musica per i vostri sogni." During this period, he partnered with the musician known as Piero Piccioni, producing a series of innovative radio shows that showcased jazz piano performances alongside a string orchestra. Around the same time, Trovajoli also gained prominence as a popular songwriter, often using the pseudonym Gino Paoli.

His film career took off in 1952 when he was invited by director Alberto Lattuada to compose the score for the film Anna. The song "El Negro Zumbon" from this soundtrack achieved worldwide success. In the same year, Trovajoli performed Gershwin's music as a concert pianist under the direction of conductor Antonino Votto at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples and with maestro Alberto Zedda at the Basilica di Massenzio in Rome.

In 1953, he not only composed the score for the film "Due notti con Cleopatra," but also served as the orchestra director at the prestigious Festival della canzone di Sanremo, a role he would reprise in 1957. His international acclaim continued to grow with the song "Che m'è mparato a ffà," which was recorded by the renowned artist Domenico Modugno in 1958.

By 1962, Trovajoli, who had previously worked on several variety shows, composed the music for the musical comedy "Rugantino." Throughout his career, he created soundtracks for numerous films, collaborating with directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, and Ettore Scola. In recognition of his significant contributions to music and film, he was honored with the "Premio Speciale David di Donatello" in 2007.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
