**Canadian Rock Five-Piece Group**

Amish, a Canadian rock band, was formed in 1970 in Galt, Ontario, emerging from the remnants of the R & B cover band FJ And The Impressions, which featured bassist Mike Gingrich and organ player Ron Baumtrog. The group initially performed cover versions of songs by McKenna-Mendelson Mainline, The Modern Rock Quartet, The Doors, and James Gang.

The band's manager, Bill Gefross, introduced them to Sussex Records in the United States, where Motown producer Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore, both staff producers for Sussex, facilitated their recording sessions at GM Studios in East Detroit. Due to his status as a draft dodger during the Vietnam War, guitarist Botts was unable to return to the United States for the recordings, leading to session guitarist Joe Gutz stepping in for the album.

Their self-titled debut album was released in 1972 through Buddah Records and featured a cover of Traffic’s "Dear Mr. Fantasy." An original track, "Down The Road," was planned for a 7" release alongside the non-LP song "Upon My Leavin’," but the label ultimately did not issue it.

After the album's release and the prospect of a U.S. tour, Amish merged with another band from the Preston-Galt area, Oasis. This merger saw guitarist Bob Norris replace Botts and drummer Kim Neil take the place of Byrne.

Although they recorded a second album, it was never released, and Baumtrog eventually left the group, leading to Gery Mertz joining on keyboards. The band continued to perform for a couple more years, even as a four-piece following Mertz's departure.

Baumtrog currently serves as the Health & Safety Co-ordinator for Metokote Canada in Cambridge, Ontario. Mike Gingrich played with Nightwinds in the late 1970s, served as Klaatu’s touring bassist from November 1981 until August 1982, performed with The Headpins in 1983, and worked with Holly Woods and Toronto in 1984. Doug Stagg passed away in 1999.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album

International Buyers: We charge $7 for the first record and $2 a record thereafter for Domestic Shipping in the continental United States. This only includes shipping to the International hub here in the United States. Please carefully review the total shipping and VAT charges for your order before committing to a purchase, which will be different from what we are able to view or control on the US eBay site.
