Victor Castro was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal. He began his musical education in classical guitar at the Regional Conservatory of Angra do Heroísmo, where he studied under the guidance of Azorean guitarist Carlos Baptista Avila and American instructors Steven Rings, Timothy Johnson, Miles D. Barford, and Eddy Goldz. He completed his studies with Robert Hugo from Uruguay. Additionally, Castro participated in masterclasses with notable guitarists such as David Russell from Scotland, Argentina's Eduard Isaac, Costas Cotsiolis from Greece, Croatia's Ana Vidovic, Marco Pereira and Sebastião Tapajós from Brazil, and Fabio Zanon, also from Brazil. He pursued further music studies at the Federal University of Maranhão in Brazil and earned a Master's degree in Guitar Performance from Aveiro University in Portugal.
In 1999, he released the CD "Victor Castro Plays," featuring compositions by distinguished composers including Paulo Bellinatti, Mertz, Albéniz, Nikita Koshkin, and Augustin Barrios. Two years later, in 2001, he launched "Freedom of Tradition," showcasing his arrangements of traditional songs from Terceira Island for classical guitar.
Castro has performed solo concerts across various countries, including Portugal, Spain, Germany, the United States, Argentina, and multiple states in Brazil, such as São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Roraima, Rondônia, Tocantins, Pará, Piauí, Amazonas, Rio Grande do Norte, and Goiás. His collaborations in Portugal include performances with international musicians like violinist Evgenia Soltys from Russia, cellist Grytsyouk Orest from Ukraine, flutist Mikail Roussal from Ukraine, and Italian clarinetist Christiani Latini, who is the first clarinet in the Milan orchestra. Recently, he worked with Costa Rican violinist Rosa Pampillo.
Since 2005, Castro has partnered with Azorean guitarist Paulo Cunha to develop the "Tribute to Carlos Paredes" project, where they perform compositions of the renowned Portuguese guitarist on the Portuguese Guitar of Coimbra. This tribute has been presented in St. Louis and various cities across Portugal.
Among the significant moments in his career, Castro performed during the "June 10" celebration for the President of Portugal, Dr. Jorge Sampaio, at the Festival of Music organized by the Department of Culture of Coimbra. He also participated in the International Festival Francisco Lacerda and was invited for a recital in Lisbon at the SPA auditorium, where he played the complete works for guitar by Portuguese composer Lopes Graça.
He has collaborated with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of the Music School of Maranhão. Castro has been invited to take part in the fourth and fifth San Luis Guitar Festival. He has received the "Raphael Rabelo" award twice and achieved second place in the National Contest sponsored by the National Guitar Festival of Piauí (FENAVIPI), competing against numerous guitarists from across the country, with a jury composed of distinguished guitarists such as Henrique Pinto, Fabio Zanon, Marco Pereira, Sebastião Tapajós, and Ana Vidovic, prominent figures in the guitar world.
Castro has also worked alongside several renowned Brazilian musicians, including Mauro Sérgio, Cuca Teixeira, Isaías Alves, André Vasconcelos, Celson Mendes, Sidney Duarte, Itiberê Zwarg, Luíz Junior, Milla Camões, and Augusto Pellegrini.
In addition to his performance career, he has taught classical guitar at the Conservatório Regional de Angra do Heroísmo in Portugal, served as a professor and coordinator of classical guitar at the Music School of the State of Maranhão, and taught at UEMA (Maranhão State University). He has also instructed on Principles and Methods of Teaching Art at UNDB (University Don Bosco). Currently, Castro resides in Aveiro, Portugal, where he offers private lessons at the Sociedade Musical of Santa Cecília and collaborates with various musicians on multiple musical projects.
