RosaRubea is a multidisciplinary artistic project that encompasses music, poetry, and visual art, characterized by its exploration of Expression, Vision, and Manifestation. Within the context of RosaRubea, art and creation serve as a means of delving into the realms of the Unknown, which, when experienced live, transform into a form of Ritual.
The name RosaRubea refers to the alchemical Rubedo, the final phase of the "Opus Magnum" or "Opus Chemicum," symbolizing the transmutation of base metals into Gold.
Founded in Milan between 2009 and 2010, RosaRubea emerged from the collaboration of Daniela Bedeski, known as the lead soprano of the cult band Camerata Mediolanense, and Pino Carafa, an electronic music composer who also worked with Camerata Mediolanense. Their partnership was driven by a strong desire for expressive and creative exploration. From the outset, the duo focused on experimentation, seamlessly blending electronic music with Bedeski's versatile soprano voice, which she contributes as a concept creator, co-author of the music, and lyricist, resulting in a vibrant creative dynamic.
Soon after, the duo expanded into a full ensemble, incorporating Marco Bosio on piano, Zeno Gabaglio on cello, and Michele Fiore on drums. This evolution culminated in their debut EP, "The Fire and The Rose," released on April 28, 2011, by the esteemed Italian label Old Europa Cafe. The EP explores themes of birth, death, and rebirth through the lens of the four elements, garnering attention from major Italian music magazines and webzines both domestically and internationally.
RosaRubea made its international debut in June 2011 at the XX Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, performing on the prestigious stage of the Schauspielhaus.
In 2012, a significant change occurred as Pino Carafa left the ensemble, making way for the addition of Yann Turrini on synths and samplers, and Ermanno Fabbri on guitar. This shift broadened the band's experimental approach, incorporating elements of psychedelia and a more pronounced electronic sound, allowing Bedeski's voice to traverse new emotional landscapes, fluctuating between softness and intensity.
Following the release of "TRE ERT TRE," a limited edition CDr issued in February 2013 to commemorate their live performance at the Villa Festival 2012, the band dedicated themselves to the creation of their first full-length album. On September 11, 2015, RosaRubea released "Chrysalide," a concept album centered on transformation, symbolized by the metamorphosis of the chrysalis. The album received critical acclaim from leading Italian music publications, including Rockerilla, Rumore, and Blow Up, as well as various webzines, with many ranking "Chrysalide" among the best albums of 2015.
In 2016, RosaRubea expanded its live lineup, collaborating with Annamaria Bernadette Cristian on cello and several talented musicians from the Italian underground scene, including Francesco Chimenti on cello, Davide Andreoni on guitar (from Sycamore Age), and Mauro Franceschini on drums (from Otto Dix and Captain Mantell).
