Born on September 25, 1990, in New Hampshire, USA, Garrett Finn is a notable American/Canadian electronic music DJ and producer recognized for his distinctive gritty, dark, and cinematic sound. He is professionally known as Rhyot (pronounced "riot"), and his musical productions are heavily influenced by the genres of techno, electro, industrial, and progressive electronica. In 2018, he established his own record label, Emercive Recordings.
Finn first adopted the alias Rhyot in 2007 while playing an online game, later utilizing it for live DJ performances that commenced in 2011 during his time at the University of New Hampshire. Upon graduating in 2013, Rhyot was honored by The New Hampshire newspaper as "UNH's DJ" and performed at NV Concepts' "Wild On: UNH" benefit concert, which supported The One Fund in response to the Boston Marathon bombing earlier that year. The event featured other prominent artists, including Morgan Page, Tommie Sunshine, and Kapslap. Although he began producing music that same year, his first official release under the Rhyot name did not occur until 2018, despite sharing works in progress on platforms like SoundCloud and YouTube prior to that.
In 2015, Finn joined the electronic music fusion group Table Syndicate (originally known as Bastinado) as a replacement for the departing founder, music producer Josh Harris. His debut performance with the band took place at a private concert event at Disney's Epcot, where he utilized two Reactable Live systems along with live didgeridoo. In early 2016, he relocated to Pittsburgh to collaborate with didgeridoo performer Joseph Carringer on original and remixed recordings. Together, they created remixes for various artists, including Phillip George featuring Dragonette, Dianne Warren with Michelle Obama, Michael Franti, Sheila Gordhan, and Empire of the Sun, and collaborated with Liz Berlin of Rusted Root. One of their remix packs, in association with Roger Sanchez, reached #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart, while multiple releases they supported on commission with Capital Records, Astralwerks, and other labels also achieved similar chart success. Finn departed from the group at the end of 2016 to concentrate on his solo career.
In March 2018, Rhyot launched Emercive Recordings, which was incorporated in Canada in 2019. The label's inaugural release was "Converge, Vol. 1", featuring Rhyot's single "Meld", followed closely by "Army of the Dead." Both tracks garnered support from producer deadmau5 during his "mau5trap Mondays" livestreams. The "Converge" series, including a third volume released as a double LP in December 2019, has seen significant success on Beatport, each volume featuring an original track from Rhyot.
In February 2020, Rhyot unveiled his debut EP, "In Ruin." Later that year, Barbosa released the (ra) EP on Emercive, which included a remix by Rhyot of the track "Juárez." This EP achieved the top position on Beatport's Indie Dance Releases chart. In March 2021, Rhyot and Barbosa collaborated on an EP titled "Unbound," which included an original track of the same name and two remixes by both artists.
In the latter part of 2021, Rhyot released "Aphelion" on Barbosa's Heist Mode label, performed in Los Angeles, and delivered a remix of Bad Eye's "Aphotic" for the Understated @ Nite imprint. He also organized an underground dance music event in Toronto. The following year, he returned to Los Angeles for a headline performance at the FALLOUT event series and supported Heist Mode's summer showcase in the city. Additionally, he released his second guest mix feature with EDM Identity while previewing new unreleased tracks. In December 2022, Rhyot released "Genesis," a progressive house and electronica single that had been in development since 2014.
