Alessia, a Pop Rock singer based in Shanghai, brings a unique cultural perspective to her music as an Italian artist who composes and performs in multiple languages, including Chinese, English, Spanish, French, and Italian. Her musical journey is deeply personal and resonates with many. Like numerous musicians, her passion for music ignited at a young age. She began her musical education with the piano, quickly transitioning to vocal expression, often emulating her idol, Laura Pausini, during her early years. Subsequently, Alessia joined local bands, performing across her region and covering songs by artists such as Fabrizio De André, Vasco Rossi, and others.
While Alessia initially sought to pursue a career in music, she found herself needing to balance her artistic ambitions with a more conventional job. Nonetheless, her dedication to songwriting and singing remained strong, and she garnered opportunities to collaborate with prominent Italian musicians, including Negramaro, J-Ax, and Marco Mengoni. However, a pivotal moment arrived when she accepted a job transfer to Shanghai, which she initially viewed as a potential end to her musical aspirations.
Contrary to her expectations, this move marked a significant turning point in her career. Alessia quickly adapted to her new surroundings and began exploring the vibrant local music scene. Frequent visits to KTV (Karaoke) led her to discover captivating Chinese pop songs, inspiring her to perform in Chinese. She soon found that audiences were intrigued by a foreign artist embracing their music. Among her favorite rock artists are Wang Feng (汪峰), Cui Jian (崔健), and Qi Qin.
A transformative event occurred when Alessia entered a singing contest, where she won by performing Lucio Battisti's "Nessun dolore" in Giorgia's rendition. Despite being preoccupied with work, she managed to arrive just in time to perform. Following her victory, opportunities for live events across China began to emerge. Ultimately, she decided to leave her logistics job to focus entirely on her music career.
During this period, Alessia developed a musical project that earned her the title of "Music Ambassador" for China and Italy, promoting cultural exchange between the two nations. She adapts Italian songs for Chinese audiences and vice versa, incorporating works from various artists including Marco Mengoni, Eros Ramazzotti, and Cui Jian in her live performances. In October 2015, she showcased the Chinese version of "Volare" at the Milan World Expo, performing in three Chinese pavilions. By June 2018, she made history as the first foreigner to sing the "China National Anthem" before the Chinese Government in Shanghai.
To date, Alessia has written and released three songs in Chinese, compiled in an EP titled "Alessia’s Journey." One of these songs has also been adapted into Italian with slight changes in arrangement. She composed this Italian piece during a flight between Beijing and Shanghai, expressing her love for her homeland and the emotions of being far from it, titling it "Italia." The song reflects nostalgia without regret and was presented at the Radio DeeJay Stage event in Riccione, Italy, on August 18.
Continuing her musical endeavors, Alessia performs live throughout China and internationally. In September and October 2019, she presented her music in Buenos Aires, Argentina, followed by performances in Milan, Florence, and Bologna later that October. In December 2019, she received recognition at the "China Awards" from the Fondazione Italia Cina, earning the title of "Ambassador of Italian Music in China and Chinese Music in Italy." She subsequently appeared on the Italian National TV show "L'Italia con Voi" in Rome.
In February 2020, Alessia plans to embark on a short tour in Argentina to promote her first song in Spanish. On March 4, 2022, she contributed to the duets album "En Duo," featuring various famous French artists alongside her new rendition of "Volare."
Alessia's passion for languages drives her to sing in numerous languages, as she believes it is essential for listeners to grasp the meaning behind the music. She aims to serve as a cultural bridge, enriching the connection between different cultures and languages. Since her arrival in China in 2010, she has dedicated herself to adapting renowned Italian and Spanish songs into Chinese, as well as translating famous Chinese songs into Italian, Spanish, English, and more. Her commitment to music knows no boundaries, as she also performs in German, Japanese, Hindi, and Arabic.
