Alessandra Pompili is a distinguished soloist who has garnered both critical and public acclaim through her performances across Italy, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Iceland, Germany, Poland, and the United States. Notable venues for her concerts include Teatro Ghione in Rome, St. David’s Hall in Cardiff, the Concert Hall of the Liszt Museum and Academy in Budapest, Filharmonia Krakowska in Poland, Casa Verdi in Milan, the Vatican Museums, Villa d’Este in Tivoli, as well as the Cathedrals of Wrexham, Sheffield, Lancaster, and Glasgow, St. Ann’s in Manchester, and the Armenian Cultural Foundation in Arlington, USA, among many others.
In addition to her dedication to the traditional repertoire, Alessandra is a passionate advocate for the works of composers Alan Hovhaness and Sergio Calligaris. She frequently performs and records their music, including premières such as Hovhaness’s Sonata Cougar Mountain, Op. 390, and Fantasy, Op. 15, as well as Calligaris’s Ave Verum, Op. 42a.
Alessandra has also shown a keen interest in religious music for piano. Since 2009, she has performed the piano solo version of Liszt’s Via Crucis nearly eighty times throughout Europe, notably presenting the first performance of this version at the Liszt Museum and Academy in Budapest. Her recital of Via Crucis at the Vatican Museums was recorded live by Vatican Radio, subsequently distributed to the EBU-UER and featured during the Easter and Holy Week programming in 2013. This marked a significant moment as it was the first solo piano composition included in the Holy Week programme of the EBU and was broadcast by approximately fifteen major radio stations across Europe.
Since 2006, Alessandra has been a recording artist for Vatican Radio, with featured works by composers including Beethoven, Weber, Chopin, Brahms, Liszt, Hindemith, Hovhaness, and Torp. Her inaugural recital was presented to the EBU and subsequently requested by networks in Austria, Romania, Korea, and Australia. Since 2009, she has collaborated with Vatican Radio to produce and present music programmes focusing on composers such as Liszt, Hovhaness, and Rota. In late 2015, she recorded a live session for the London-based ResonanceFM, which centered on Alan Hovhaness.
Her debut CD, "Hovhaness: Piano Works," released by the Italian label Dynamic, features four premières and received high praise, earning a spot on Naxos Critics’ Choice for June 2015. This CD has since been widely broadcast around the globe. Alessandra plans to record a second CD for Dynamic featuring works by Alan Hovhaness, with additional world premières scheduled at the end of 2019.
In July 2010, Alessandra participated as a guest artist in Martin Berkofsky’s masterclass, where she recorded works by Hovhaness, both as a soloist and in collaboration with Berkofsky for the Cristofori Foundation. Her tribute recital in 2015 honoring Martin was well-received and broadcast in the United States. She has also conducted masterclasses in Glasgow and Boston.
Alessandra studied for over fifteen years under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer Sergio Calligaris, graduating with the highest distinction from L’Aquila Conservatoire. She furthered her education with Arnaldo Graziosi and Marcella Crudeli at the École Normale de Musique de Paris A. Cortot, where she earned the first prize. Her technical training, guided by Luigi D’Ascoli, aligns her with the Neapolitan school associated with Vincenzo Vitale.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Alessandra holds degrees in History of Art and Archaeology, including a degree and postgraduate degree from Italy, as well as an MA and a PhD from England.
