Biography:
Fly Paper was formed in 2012, and in January of that year, the band welcomed saxophonist and keyboardist Marty McLean, embarking on the creation of their second studio album. As they developed new material, the group made their first foray into the southeastern United States, performing in Miami and the Florida Keys. In June, they commenced their third national tour, revisiting familiar venues and exploring new ones, including Denver, Seattle, Santa Monica, and a sold-out concert in Bremerton, WA. The band also took the stage at the 2013 Wild Mountain Faire in Northern California, as well as at Michigan's 2013 Jamma Wamma Music and Arts Festival, the 2013 Southwestern Michigan Harvest Festival, and Big Rapids' 2013 Cranker's Fest.
Upon returning from their summer tour, Fly Paper received a proposal from the Jettison Agency to manage their bookings. In September, they celebrated the release of their second full-length studio album, "Dream," with a lively performance at Bell's Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo. This concert marked a transition for the band, as drummer Ashley Ickes departed, allowing Sam Rice to step in as the new drummer as they moved into 2014 and beyond. In mid-December, they premiered their first music video, directed by Michigan native Ben Woody, for the track "Sing, Sing, Sing Along" from "Dream." Fly Paper planned to continue touring throughout 2014 while seeking a record label to expand their music's reach to national and international audiences.
Fly Paper has performed alongside a diverse range of artists, including Styx, Stray Cat Lee Rocker, Delhi to Dublin, Mystic Roots, Marcia Griffiths, Roster McCabe, the4onthefloor, The Ragbirds, Funktion, Jamie Lono, and many others.
The year 2012 proved significant for Fly Paper, as they released their fan-funded CD, "Live at the Globe Theater," on August 31, followed by a fan-funded DVD of the concert later that fall. The band was featured in the "On the Rise" section of Relix Magazine's March 2012 issue and completed a second national tour, performing 26 shows across the United States, with stops in Denver, Portland, and Los Angeles. They played at the renowned Triple Door in Seattle and sold out the Treehouse in Bainbridge Island, Washington. Additionally, they participated in the 2012 Wild Mountain Faire Music Festival in Northern California, the 4th Annual Hoodilidoo Music Festival in Southern Michigan, and opened for Stray Cat Lee Rocker and Styx at the 2012 Deadwood Jam in Deadwood, South Dakota.
Fly Paper released their self-produced debut CD, funded by fans, on July 29, 2011, at a record-breaking show at the Old Dog Tavern in Kalamazoo, MI. The initial pressing of the CD nearly sold out, prompting a second pressing. This release concert marked the beginning of a 14-show summer tour, during which the band set an attendance record at the venue. Their self-booked tour included stops in Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Denver, and culminated at the iconic Whiskey A-Go-Go in West Hollywood, CA. The tour continued north to Bremerton, WA, where they performed to a near-capacity audience at the Admiral Theatre, with additional shows in Montana, South Dakota, and Wisconsin leading them back home.
