NoWayOut is a Spanish punk rock and hardcore band hailing from Sardañola del Vallès, Catalonia. The group was formed in 1998 by three members of the disbanded group Legalizit: Xavi, Japo, and Tole, who were soon joined by guitarist Txosse. In early 1999, Tole departed, and Jordi came on board as the drummer. That March, they recorded their debut demo titled "Having Fun at Last!" which features nine tracks. After Jordi's temporary departure, Oxi, from the band Ubi Sunt, joined as the drummer, solidifying the band’s melodic hardcore style.
In July 2001, NoWayOut released their first album, "Long Way To Nowhere," through Outline Records. However, in September of the same year, Xavi left the band, leading to Noel joining Txosse as the new vocalist and guitarist.
Following a tour in Spain to promote "Long Way To Nowhere," the band recorded their second album, "Waitin' For Sunday," in late 2002, although it wouldn't be released until December 2003. During this period, they performed in countries such as Belgium and France and established connections with a Japanese developer interested in releasing their album in Japan, fostering a strong relationship with the country.
While working on an ambitious new project, NoWayOut decided to create a double CD that would include Spanish versions of their English songs. For this endeavor, they enlisted producer Joe Marlett, known for his work with artists like Blink-182, Relient K, and Foo Fighters. The album arrangements took place in Los Angeles at The Mastering Lab in September 2005. Shortly before its release, Japo left due to personal disagreements, and Felix joined, bringing a fresh perspective to the band. Following his departure, Japo later reunited with Xavi to form another group, Bottleduck.
On October 25, 2005, NoWayOut released "Bipolar," produced by Warner Dro and licensed to GMM Records for international distribution. The Bipolar tour kicked off in December 2005, including a mini-tour in Japan, which further strengthened their ties with the Japanese audience. The tour culminated in early March 2006 in Spain, showcasing a revitalized live performance across more than 40 concerts.
On July 18, 2007, Txosse announced via the band’s website that he would be leaving music to focus on his work as a producer. The remaining members, Felix, Noel, and Oxi, traveled to San Diego, California, again collaborating with Joe Marlett. Their album "Lo Que Dura Dura" was released in 2008, featuring a sound that leaned more towards pop rock while retaining elements of pop-punk.
In September 2008, Oxi exited the band. During that month’s concerts, they utilized a temporary drummer, Ernest, from the band Yawn. Subsequently, Victor Alvarez Carracedo took over drumming duties in live performances, while Periko and Albert Silva alternated on the second guitar.
In November 2008, they filmed a music video for their new single "En Mil Pedazos," which debuted on February 2, 2009, on the NoWayOut website. Following the "Gira Con Un Par" tour with Dikers in April 2009, the band welcomed Sergi Monroy, the former drummer of Day-X, as their new drummer, reverting to a trio format.
NoWayOut began working on their fifth album, "No Way Out (4) - Tabula Rasa," in May 2009, with the intention of crafting a sound reflective of their trio status. The album, released on February 21, 2011, is noted as their strongest effort to date, drawing inspiration from the punk rock and melodic hardcore bands of the 1990s. The album was produced and mixed by Joe Marlett, marking his third consecutive collaboration with the band, while the mastering was completed by Tom Baker at Precision Mastering in Hollywood.
