“Please don’t categorize me with those who merely conserve Thai culture!”
Neuter Lover, an innovative artist, blends the traditional sounds of the Thai dulcimer (Khim) with an ambient and post-rock atmosphere. Their work earned recognition at the AVIMA 2010 (Asia Pacific VOICE Independent Music Awards), where they secured 3rd place (Bronze) for their "Moody melancholic masterpiece."
Beginning their musical journey as a bedroom studio artist, Neuter Lover crafted a unique fusion of ambient and shoegaze music, incorporating elements of computer programming and noise guitar. Their demo garnered significant attention, being nominated as one of the 15 finalists for "Bedroom Artist of The Year" at the FAT Awards 3 (by FAT Radio, FM 104.5) in 2005. Additionally, the song "Find" appeared on DDT Magazine's compilation CD vol.4. They were also selected to perform live at Fête de la Musique 2005, recognized as the top scorer among their self-produced demos.
Upon releasing their demos online, Neuter Lover achieved the No. 1 position on the Alternative/Shoegaze music chart of audiostreet.net, a global independent music community, which opened up new avenues for them. However, a two-year detour in the music industry led to personal challenges that impacted their life.
After overcoming these struggles, Neuter Lover released their first mini-album, “I am Neuter Lover,” on April 27, 2010. This project, which took three years to produce, involved collaboration with talented artists who resonated with their unique sound, including Death of a Salesman and Private Trip. The entire album was mixed and mastered by Woody Pornpitaksuk, who was recognized at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards for his work on the Historical Album: Louis Armstrong - The Complete Hot Five and Hot Seven Recordings.
From this mini-album, Neuter Lover received the AVIMA 2010 award for 3rd place (Bronze) in "Moody melancholic masterpiece" for the song “หา (Find).” They were also nominated for “Best Female Artist” at the Kom Chad Luek Awards 8. However, before the final round, they were categorized alongside male rock groups, as the judging was based solely on the music, prompting Neuter Lover to embrace the notion that their music transcends gender, hence their use of the pronouns they/them.
Neuter Lover’s exploration of their sound, particularly through the Khim, flourished during jam sessions with Koichi Shimizu and other artists from the SO:ON label, enhancing their creativity in composition and performance.
With a wealth of experiences and stories from live performances in various extraordinary venues, Neuter Lover cultivated an experimental atmosphere that resonated with international audiences, encouraging them to expand their reach overseas.
Inspired to create a new album, Neuter Lover began developing new demos in 2011, a process that spanned approximately seven years and coincided with personal battles against nerve tension and depression. The final demo was completed in September 2017, serving as the foundation for their upcoming album, titled “This World Is Wrong.”
“This World Is Wrong” artistically captures the complexities and distortions of the human mind, utilizing the distinctive sounds of the Khim within an ambient electronic and post-rock framework. The album was produced by Neuter Lover with valuable assistance from Woody Pornpitaksuk, who once again lent his expertise in mixing and mastering.
Drawing on their professional background in UX design, Neuter Lover developed a crowdfunding platform on their official website to support the production budget for this new album, allowing fans to witness the creative process at every step. This journey became a cherished experience, fostering a unique bond between the artist and their supporters.
Ultimately, “This World Is Wrong” was released in February 2019.
