The project began in 1998 in Barcelona, Spain, founded by InqUesT and Blackend under the name ‘Morbid Mind.’ With a focus on experimental electro-industrial sounds, they self-produced a series of tapes that were shared within their circle of friends, though they did not achieve significant impact.
In 2003, InqUesT, now working independently and revitalized, redefined the project, renaming it 'Larva' to reflect the band’s technical, social, and ideological evolution. Larva adopted a more socially engaged approach and developed a sound characterized by increased noise and intensity, while maintaining an essence of darkness.
By early 2006, Larva expanded its lineup with the addition of two members, M.L. and Anoxia. This new formation resulted in more complex and diverse musical compositions, as well as energetic live performances.
The band secured its first record deal with Komblok Records, releasing the CD ‘Diogenes Syndrome’ in digipack format, which was distributed in the USA and Europe. The year 2007 saw the release of ‘Autosectarismo,’ a self-produced album distributed worldwide.
In 2008, Larva signed with Advoxya Records to release ‘Voces del laberinto,’ which featured mastering by Jan (known for work with X-Fusion, Noisuf-X, etc.) and included two bonus videos. The following year, under Advoxya Records, the band released its fourth CD, ‘The Hated,’ followed by ‘The Hated Mexican Tour 09,’ which included performances across numerous cities in Mexico, garnering positive media reviews. Additionally, Larva contributed the track ‘Come with me’ to the Alfa-Matrix compilation Endzeit Bunkertracks V and provided a remix for Unter Null’s CD ‘Moving on.’
In 2010, Larva released the remix CD ‘Entre agujas’ through Advoxya Records, collaborating with various artists such as Asseptic Room, Tech Nomader, Extinction Front, and Deadjump in the creative process. This was followed by another extensive tour through the USA and Mexico, spanning 35 days and featuring performances in cities including Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
In April 2011, Larva released ‘Und sie aßen sich selbst’ under Danse Macabre Records, marking the band’s entry into the GEWC German charts. That June, the band reissued remastered versions of their first two CDs, ‘Diogenes Syndrome’ and ‘Autosectarismo,’ in a limited CDBOX format under Mutant-e Records. This was followed by a third tour in the USA and Mexico, lasting 22 days.
August 2012 saw the release of ‘Broken hopes of a wasted youth’ under Advoxya Records, presented as a limited box set that included a CD, DVD, remixes CD, 7" vinyl, and various merchandise. This release also made an impact on the GEWC German charts. Subsequent tours included performances in cities such as San Diego, Tijuana, Los Angeles, and DF.
In August 2013, Larva released ‘Where the butterflies go to die’ through Advoxya Records, again as a limited edition including a CD, remixes CD, and a DVD. To promote this album, the band toured multiple countries including Germany, the USA, Mexico, Russia, Siberia, France, Belgium, and Spain, receiving favorable reviews from various magazines and specialized websites.
In 2014, to commemorate a decade of existence, Larva released ‘The worst of... 2004-2014,’ a compilation of the band’s most notable songs, available in a special format that included a 7" vinyl, also under Advoxya Records.
2015 saw the release of the album ‘Abominations’ under Advoxya Records, available in CD, DVD, and 12" red vinyl formats. It was critically acclaimed for its composition and production quality.
The year 2017 began with the release of ‘Scars’ in two different editions: double 12" vinyl and CD, both of which received positive reviews.
In 2018, Larva’s increasing popularity in Russia prompted Scent Air Records to partner with Advoxya Records for the release of ‘The sun has set over Russia,’ a compilation of the band’s hits along with two new tracks. That summer, Advoxya Records released ‘Scars The Singles,’ a set of three 7" vinyl records featuring new songs and reinterpretations of older material.
As 2019 commenced, Larva released its first live DVD titled ‘Death on stage, a compendium of live recordings,’ showcasing performances from Ukraine, France, and the USA. Later that summer, Advoxya Records released ‘Mundos subterráneos,’ the band’s newest album, available in 12” white vinyl and CD formats.
