Lambwool

Lambwool is a solo project led by French musician Cyril Laurent.

Laurent's musical journey began in the early 1990s with a metal-oriented band named Moon Revolution, based in Marseille. In 1996, he released an EP titled "French Kissin" under the moniker The Soul Lives in Berlin, a project influenced by the sound of Ministry.

The Lambwool project was established in 2000, drawing inspiration from artists such as Dead Can Dance, Tangerine Dream, Labradford, Brian Eno, and "Heaven Deconstruction" by The Young Gods. The music of Lambwool is characterized by ambient and cinematic compositions that encourage meditation and introspection. His first demo, "Half Alive," released in 2001, won a contest held by D-Side Magazine, followed by a second demo called "UnBorn" in 2002.

In 2005, Lambwool released his debut album, "Fading Landscapes," on Divine Comedy Records. This album featured a photo book by Peter BENGTSEN and included a duet with Othila. It was recognized as "Album of the Month" by Elegy Mag and received a notable rating of 9/10 from Orkus Mag.

After contributing to various compilations, Lambwool released his second album, "...and the angel is gone," in 2008, also on Divine Comedy Records. This album, exploring themes of departure and solitude, was accompanied by enigmatic imagery from Peter BENGTSEN and featured a guest vocal appearance by Sigma from Komplex. It was acclaimed by D-SIDE magazine as the "best dark ambient album never released in France" and was included in NOISE Magazine's "Best French Albums 2008" poll.

In the same year, he collaborated on a split album with BABYLONE CHAOS and LE DIKTAT, released by OPN Records. This unique project combined three distinct musical styles—industrial, electronic, and ambient—into a cohesive experience.

In 2009, Lambwool contributed to the sold-out compilation "ELECTRONIC MANIFESTO 3- TRIBUTE TO MUTE RECORDS" (M-Tronic Records) with a cover of a DEPECHE MODE track featuring a special guest. He also appeared on two tracks of the KULFI album "5th Estate," with one track on the vinyl version released by Divine Comedy Records and the second track, which remains unreleased, on the CD version.

September 2009 marked the release of "Mono" on OPN Records, a limited vinyl LP comprising a lengthy composition divided into two parts, reminiscent of the works of 1970s electronic pioneers like Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, and Edgar Froese. The album cover was once again designed by Peter BENGTSEN and was dedicated to Cyril Laurent's father, who passed away on the final day of recording.

In the summer of 2012, OPN Records released "A sky through the wall," a two-CD set celebrating ten years of Lambwool's work, which included a new album and a bonus CD of unreleased and rare material. This luxurious digipack featured the photography of Jerome SEVRETTE. Later that year, Lambwool collaborated with SEVRETTE on the "Terres Neuves" project, a compilation inspired by SEVRETTE's photographs, blending photography, writing, and music from various artists, including And Also The Trees and Jerome Tcherneyan from Piano Magic.

In 2014, Lambwool released two records on OPN Records on the same day. The first was "Post," a collaboration with Nicolas Dick from KILL THE THRILL, blending ambient and noisy/shoegaze elements to create a personal sonic landscape. The second was an EP titled "Vanish," featuring four tracks that explored airy, introspective soundscapes filled with melody and melancholy. Both releases were accompanied by artwork from Jerome SEVRETTE.

After a period of relative silence, Lambwool returned with several digital releases, including "Islandi" in 2018, inspired by a road trip in Iceland, and "Isolation" in 2020, a spontaneous project created during the COVID-19 lockdown. He also made appearances on various international compilations and served as a remixer for artists such as Kore Kosmou, Olowex, and Cruise Ctrl.

Cleaning

Mastering Vinyl Care for Longevity

Proper vinyl care is crucial not just for preserving sound quality but also for maintaining the value of your collection. Dust, fingerprints, and oils can accumulate on your records, leading to pops, clicks, and ultimately degraded audio fidelity. You should invest in a high-quality carbon fiber brush for surface cleaning, which can effectively remove debris without scratching the vinyl. For deeper cleaning, consider using a dedicated vinyl cleaning solution and microfiber cloth. This method not only enhances sound clarity but can also preserve the value of records worth $100 or more. Regular cleaning can significantly extend the life of your vinyl, ensuring that your investment is safeguarded over the years. Additionally, it's essential to store your records vertically and away from direct sunlight to prevent warping, which can irreparably damage your collection. By prioritizing preservation through meticulous cleaning and proper storage, you ensure that every spin on your turntable is a delightful experience. Remember, a well-cared-for record is not just a joy to listen to but also a smart investment for the future.

Pro Tip: Use a vacuum-based record cleaning machine for the best results in deep cleaning.

The Essential Guide to Electronic Vinyl Collecting

Electronic music has evolved significantly since its inception in the late 20th century, making electronic vinyl collecting a thrilling pursuit for audiophiles and music enthusiasts alike. The genre originated in the 1950s with experimental sounds, but it exploded into mainstream consciousness during the 1980s, coinciding with the rise of synthesizers and drum machines. The golden era of electronic music spanned the late '70s through the '90s, characterized by the emergence of various sub-genres such as techno, house, ambient, and trance. Key movements like the Chicago House scene and the Detroit Techno revolution laid the foundation for today's electronic music landscape.

When diving into electronic vinyl collecting, there are several essential artists to consider. Kraftwerk, often dubbed the pioneers of electronic music, shaped the genre with their innovative use of technology and sound. Other notable artists include Moby, who infused electronic music with elements of rock and pop, and Boards of Canada, who are celebrated for their ambient soundscapes. Finally, Underworld, best known for their track "Born Slippy," made significant contributions to the electronic scene, especially in the 1990s.

For collectors, there are must-own albums that define electronic music. Kraftwerk's "Trans-Europe Express" (1977) is a seminal work that showcases their pioneering sound.
