KARBONSOUL is a metal band hailing from Sintra, Lisbon, Portugal, established in March 2007. Initially recognized as a gothic metal group, their early sound featured melodic elements set against melancholic atmospheres. Over the years, KARBONSOUL evolved their style, transitioning naturally towards a heavier metal sound, which now incorporates influences from death metal, doom metal, and dark/black metal.
The foundation of KARBONSOUL was laid by Rstein, the current leader and guitarist, during a tour with the band VS777. During this tour, Rstein, who was the bassist for VS777, met vocalist Muffy in Elvas and extended an invitation for her to join the project. Drummer Hellfish was also invited to be part of the lineup, and to complete the quartet, Rvid was brought in as the bassist.
In 2007, KARBONSOUL recorded their first tracks, “The Void of Love” and “Tears of Agony,” which were shared online, particularly on MySpace, where they received a favorable reception. The following year, 2008, was dedicated to music composition, rehearsals, and solidifying the transition from an individual project to a cohesive band.
KARBONSOUL began performing live in 2009, participating in significant underground events and opening for notable bands such as KATHAARSYS (Spain) at Side B, WHY ANGELS FALL, and MOURNING LENORE at Transmission Bar, as well as DARKSIDE OF INNOCENCE at Musicbox. They also appeared at festivals like Dark Summer Fest alongside DESIRE, ENTROPIA, and INVOKE.
In early 2010, the band recorded two songs, “Frozen Bodies” (which featured a music video) and “The Siren,” for a Split CD titled "Concilium 13," released by UNIÃO METÁLICA. This project was extensively promoted through the Concilium 13 Tour, which included performances across Portugal. That year proved to be particularly productive for KARBONSOUL, highlighted by their opening for RAMP on the Subversion Tour, two concert dates opening for KELLS (France), and festival appearances at Gaia em Peso and Street War Fest, where they opened for DECAYED.
Towards the end of this tour, drummer Hellfish departed the band for personal reasons. In September 2010, Sir Nightfall, formerly of NOCTURNAL REVERIES, joined KARBONSOUL, ushering in a new era characterized by increased intensity, brutality, and dynamism.
In April 2011, KARBONSOUL began recording their EP "3LOGY." By August 2011, the track “Bleeding Sorrow” was featured on the compilation “Light Bearers,” released by INFEKTION MAGAZINE, which showcased several prominent underground metal bands.
The latter part of 2012 and the year 2013 were challenging periods for KARBONSOUL, marked by health issues among two band members and personal and professional difficulties that nearly led to a hiatus. Nonetheless, the band continued to work in the studio on the EP "3LOGY" and on new compositions.
In December 2012, KARBONSOUL performed in Évora alongside BORDERLANDS, GENNOMA, and E.D.G.E., and participated in the 2nd Cameraman Metalfest in Moita, sharing the stage with ATTICK DEMONS and ACID LIZARD. In January 2013, they returned to Évora to perform with CONTRADICTION (Germany) and thrash metal band NUKLEAR INFEKTION.
By December 2013, the EP "3LOGY" was completed, having been recorded and mixed at FATSOUND PRODUCTIONS in Sintra, under the production of Mário Rodrigues, who is both a guitarist and producer for KARBONSOUL. The EP consists of three tracks: “Bleeding Sorrow,” “Construction through Destruction,” and “Decadent Empire,” encapsulating the band's journey over the preceding three years.
In December 2013, KARBONSOUL opened for SACRED SIN in Lisbon, during which Muffy performed a guest appearance on their cover of “Arise” by SEPULTURA. The EP "3LOGY" was subsequently released online in digital format in January 2014.
