Gabriela and Mihaela Modorcea are accomplished artists known for their diverse talents as professional actresses, Grammy-winning singer/composers, dancers, choreographers, music producers, and fashion designers. The Modorcea twins, who form the duo Indiggo Twins, were born in Transylvania, Romania, and are now based in New York City.
Both sisters graduated magna cum laude from the esteemed National University of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography (UNATC) in Bucharest, where they earned their Bachelor’s degrees in theater and film with a specialization in Musical Theatre. During their studies, they had the opportunity to learn from notable theater and film directors including Francis Ford Coppola, Roman Polanski, Andrei Serban, and Krzysztof Zanussi. In Bucharest, they took on leading roles in the acclaimed musical “The Two Orphans” along with various other theatrical productions. Their training also included acting studies at Schule des Theaters “Der Keller” in Cologne, Germany, and private lessons with American actor Paul Sorvino.
For the past eight years, Mihaela and Gabriela have been developing a cinematic project inspired by Mihaela's 500-page magic realist novel, WICKED CLONE or how to deal with the evil, which became a #1 Art bestseller on Barnes & Noble. This fairy-tale novel explores themes of eternal youth and life without end, aiming to invigorate concepts within American pop culture. Mihaela adapted the novel into WICKED CLONE THE CINEMA MUSICAL, while Gabriela was responsible for composing, arranging, and producing the accompanying pop symphonic music and soundtrack, which includes 25 original compositions and spans 90 minutes. The cinematic musical has been performed five times a week off-Broadway at the Davenport Theatre in Times Square, following previous showcases at various venues such as the Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Elektra Theatre.
The music of the Indiggo Twins has been released by Sony BMG and has reached audiences in over 20 countries. Their composition "La La La," released by Das Label, is credited on Jay-Z and Kanye West’s multi-platinum, four-time Grammy-winning album Watch The Throne, particularly on the track "Murder To Excellence," which has been described as the album's centerpiece by The New York Times. The twins have collaborated with prominent music producers, including Swizz Beatz, Rockwilder, Peter Zizzo, and Paul Oakenfold.
Mihaela and Gabriela began their musical journey at the age of six, continuing to take lessons in piano, guitar, singing, and dance. They started performing publicly at twelve and have maintained a presence in the media since then. Additionally, the twins teach a popular dance class, HIP HOP BELLY DANCE, at Stepping Out Studios in NYC each week.
The sisters have made guest appearances on well-known TV series and films, including Law & Order: SVU (Hothouse episode with Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni), No Love in the City, Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj (alongside Kal Penn), and Casting Popescu, in addition to producing their own short films.
Since their debut at age twelve under Sony BMG, the Indiggo Twins have written and produced over 350 songs, with their music featured in more than 20 countries. Following their performance at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in NYC, they were offered a music-publishing contract by Imagem, the world’s largest independent music publishing company.
Fluent in English, French, German, and Romanian, the twins can sing in seven languages, showcasing their extensive training in piano, guitar, and both traditional and modern dance since childhood.
