The HIRED.LIFE project ("Жизнь Напрокат") was formed in December 2008 in Kaliningrad by Sergey 'Case' Vorobyov and Andrey Klyaus. Prior to this, Sergey was part of the dark electro/EBM project Denergized, which gained recognition with its debut album "VHS Recall," released in 2008 by the Hungarian-Russian independent label Advoxya Records. The band also achieved success with live performances in Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg. Following his departure from Denergized, Sergey aimed to embark on a new musical journey.
Despite the shift in sound, HIRED.LIFE retains a significant connection to Denergized, particularly in its lyrical themes and atmospheric elements. The music embodies a "cyberpunk" aesthetic and a cold romanticism in the human-machine relationship, reminiscent of noir influences found in works like "Blade Runner" and "Neuromancer." However, there is a notable difference in their perspective on reality. The new songs suggest a belief that there is indeed a way out of this Night City, a place where rain is perpetual and people face loss.
The band's name emerged naturally from discussions between the two friends at a local eatery, reflecting thoughts on life and existence. The phrase "Life is rented to us—how much longer will we live?" encapsulates their sentiment. They ponder the value of living in the present moment, contrasting those who dwell on the past or perpetually defer their lives to a distant future that may never arrive.
HIRED.LIFE adopted the emblem of pirate ships from the X-Universe video game series as its logo, which has become an iconic representation of the band.
In May 2011, HIRED.LIFE released its debut album "End Of Line" under the Moscow label Gravitator Records.
Following the release of "End Of Line," Pavel Grudnev, known for founding projects such as Korvius and Club La Porte de L'Enfer, joined the band in 2011. The collaborations with Pavel can be heard on the compilation "We Don't Promise You A Rose Garden," released in 2014, showcasing early and unreleased tracks from HIRED.LIFE along with remixes and covers by various Russian electronic artists.
In 2012, Alisa Smykova joined the project and contributed to the creation of the band's second full-length album, "TERMINUS," which was released in 2015 in an instrumental format.
HIRED.LIFE made a return in 2019 with guitarist and composer Pavel Blagov, who has an impressive background with successful projects like Terra Sapiens and Dolbania, and began recording a new album titled "Её Демоверсия."
