Growing up in a family where technology was integral to everyday life, Alex Hall naturally gravitated towards a career that combined his passion for music with technological expertise. From an early age, he developed an interest in using technology as a medium for artistic expression, which led him to hone his skills in music production and DJing.
With over 17 years of experience behind the decks, Alex has performed at more than 600 events, ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale parties with thousands in attendance. Influenced by seminal acts such as Orbital and Hardfloor, he became a prominent figure in the Midwest underground dance music scene during the early 1990s, particularly in cities like Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Chicago.
In 1998, Alex partnered with Paul Determan to create the duo Marscruiser. This collaboration produced a diverse array of musical styles and numerous successful tracks, which were featured in various compilations on labels including Cass and Slide's Fire Recordings, Strictly Hype, and Max Music, as well as their own label, Barley There Records. In 2004, Marscruiser collaborated with acclaimed breakbeat producer Andy Page and George Clinton, the legendary frontman of Parliament Funkadelic, to create the track "Elementalelectrofunk," which received high praise from industry figures, including Hybrid, who described it as "Our tune of the year since we first heard it."
In 2006, Alex embarked on a solo career, stepping away from Marscruiser. His debut solo release, "Future Living," on Longhall Recordings, garnered positive feedback from notable figures such as Jondi and Spesh, 365mag.com, and Global Underground's Phil K. During 2006 and 2007, Alex actively toured the DJ circuit, performing in cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Saint Louis, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. He also produced remixes for several labels, including Source of Gravity, Ascension, Biohazard, and Knob Records. In 2008, he collaborated with Q23 on the track "I Like the Robots," which received support from prominent DJs such as Ferry Corsten, Dave Dresden, and Steve Lawler. Over the last three years, Alex has built a substantial online following, with his mixes featured on Hybridized.org, amassing over 50,000 downloads since 2005. His MySpace presence has grown to include over 30,000 fans, with his music accumulating more than 100,000 plays. He has also made numerous appearances on satellite and web radio, including DJ sets on Sirius Satellite Radio, XM Satellite Radio, Proton Radio, and Frisky Radio.
In the past year, Alex released two tracks on Polytechnic Recordings, "Take Pride" and "Nuns on Waterskis," both of which received positive reviews and support from Dubfire (formerly of Deep Dish), Sandra Collins from Perfecto Recordings, Judge Jules of Radio 1 UK, and Swedish Egil from Groove Radio. In 2009, he remixed tracks for Giant Squid Recordings and Quimika Records. June 2009 saw the release of 'Breakdown,' a compilation of original and remix works from the past three years on Longhall Recordings. Additionally, he released his first collection of sound loops and beats, titled Progressive Sounds, with Soundtrack Loops. His online radio appearances in 2009 included guest DJ sets on Proton Radio, NSB Radio, DI.fm, and DanceRadioGlobal.com. The year concluded with an opening slot for Tiesto during his tour, performing in front of a packed audience of 1,800. Alex Hall's continued work is anticipated in 2010.
