Marydale "Maymay" Entrata, born on May 6, 1997, in Camiguin, Philippines, is a multifaceted talent known for her work as an actress, singer, model, and television host. She gained widespread recognition after winning the reality competition Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7 and made history as the first Filipina to walk the runway at Arab Fashion Week. Her accomplishments include receiving a FAMAS Award, an Awit Award, two PMPC Star Awards for Music, and a Box Office Entertainment Award, along with a nomination for an MTV Europe Music Award.
Personal Life
Entrata spent her early life in Camiguin before moving to Cagayan de Oro, where she was raised by her grandparents alongside her older brother, Vincent. Her father left the family when she was just one year old, while her mother, Lorna, went to Japan for work. She also has a younger half-brother, Rio, from her mother's family in Japan.
Prior to her rise in entertainment, Entrata was a college junior majoring in technology communication management at the Mindanao University of Science and Technology. However, she paused her studies to participate in Pinoy Big Brother. In a 2019 interview, she shared that her interests in school leaned towards social studies, arts, and music, while she found Mathematics and English challenging. She chose to major in English to enhance her skills in the language.
Entrata began pursuing her dream of acting at the age of 14, auditioning for various reality shows. Her first attempt was for Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010 during high school, but she was not selected. Five years later, she auditioned for Pinoy Big Brother: 737 and faced another setback. She also participated in talent competitions like The Voice and Pilipinas Got Talent, but did not succeed.
On Easter Sunday, 2024, Entrata underwent water baptism, reflecting on her faith journey. She stated, “I’ve been a Christian since 2015, got lost when I entered the industry, was invited and attended Favor Church (Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria) in 2019, took the wrong path again in 2021, not until 2023, when I slowly came back to Him.” She also confirmed her breakup with non-showbiz boyfriend Aaron Haskell, which occurred in 2022.
Career
Despite previous rejections, Entrata decided to audition for Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7 after her grandfather fell ill. Following several auditions, she was accepted onto the show. Tragically, while competing, her grandfather passed away from cardiac arrest, prompting her to take a brief leave to attend his wake in Camiguin. During her time in the PBB house, she wrote and recorded the song "Baliw" ("Crazy"), which was released by Star Music across various streaming platforms. Entrata emerged as a semi-finalist, later winning the competition on March 5, 2017, at the Alonte Sports Arena with 42.71% of the votes.
After her victory on Pinoy Big Brother, Entrata made her acting debut in a lifestory episode of the ABS-CBN drama anthology series Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK). Shortly thereafter, she signed a recording contract with Star Music. In May 2017, she starred in her first film, the romantic comedy Loving in Tandem, portraying Shine, a young woman striving to support her family. The film, co-starring fellow Pinoy Big Brother contestants, received positive reviews, with Oggs Cruz of Rappler praising Entrata's performance. Her work earned her a nomination for New Movie Actress of the Year at the PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
Following her lead role in MMK, Entrata transitioned to a supporting role in the horror-fantasy drama series La Luna Sangre, part of the franchise that includes Lobo and Imortal, featuring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. On June 21, 2017, she launched her self-titled debut album at SM North EDSA SkyDome, where she sold 2,000 physical copies and over 7,500 on its release day. The album was certified gold on June 26, 2017, and later achieved platinum status on September 17, 2017, according to the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI).
To further her musical career, Entrata headlined her concert, The Dream, on February 23, 2018, at the Kia Theater (now New Frontier), sharing the stage with Barber, Enchong Dee, and 4th Impact. The concert's success led to The Dream Tour, promoting her music through various performances, including appearances at 4th Impact's Rise Up concert and Maja Salvador's MAJA on Stage concert. Following her tour, she appeared in the horror-comedy Da One That Ghost Away and played a lead role in the fantasy anthology Wansapanataym. In November 2018, she made headlines by being the first Filipina to walk at Arab Fashion Week, representing Dubai-based designer Furne One Amato's Amato Couture. That same year, she began her hosting career on the variety show ASAP, specifically for its online segment, ASAP Chillout (now iWant ASAP). Her final film of the year was the fantasy comedy Fantastica.
In 2019, Entrata co-hosted World of Dance Online alongside Riva Quenery, AC Bonifacio, and Georcelle Dapat-Sy. In March of that year, she portrayed an Aeta beauty queen in another MMK episode, directed by John Lapus, which sparked mixed reactions on social media regarding casting choices. A month later, she released her second studio album, #M0806, available for streaming and download. She then appeared as Sarah in the drama series Hiwaga ng Kambat and took on a supporting role in the romantic drama Hello, Love, Goodbye, which became the highest-grossing Philippine film to date, earning ₱880 million ($17.8 million) worldwide. She ended 2019 with another MMK episode, portraying Maxine Blanco, a bone cancer patient whose love story went viral on Facebook.
In January 2021, Entrata starred in the romantic comedy Princess DayaReese, playing dual roles as a con artist and a princess.
