Originating from the Ottawa Valley, The Claytones skillfully weave together a melodic and vocal-driven brand of country-infused roots music, reflecting a blend of traditional influences. Their sound is characterized by intricate three-part harmonies and a welcoming stage presence, effectively merging original compositions with interpretations of classic songs.
The band released their debut album in July 2012, showcasing their distinct talents and capturing the essence of their live performances. To date, they have produced over eight full-length recordings under the names of Kelly Prescott, Prescott, Anders Drerup, and Adam Puddington. In 2012, The National Post recognized them as one of the top five Canadian acts to watch.
Anders Drerup, a native of the Ottawa Valley, has been passionate about music since childhood. He began teaching himself guitar at the age of 15, quickly garnering attention for his talent. In his early twenties, he performed in various rock and country bands, expanding his skills and touring opportunities. His musical journey has included exploring diverse genres and instruments, performing on piano, pedal steel, drums, and bass, and touring across Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Australia.
In 2009, Drerup starred as Gram Parsons in the acclaimed theatrical production “Grievous Angel: The Legend of Gram Parsons,” with Kelly Prescott portraying Emmylou Harris. Their strong chemistry led to the formation of The Claytones, an alt-country and roots trio.
Kelly Prescott comes from a lineage of musicians spanning three generations in Northern Ontario, Nova Scotia, and the Ottawa Valley. Growing up in an award-winning studio environment, she has pursued her own musical identity. In April 2009, she and her brother Kaylen released their debut album, “Lakeside Sessions,” as Prescott, which received positive reviews and airplay on CBC Radio 2, Bob Harris and Karen Millers' BBC 2 shows in the UK, and the U.S. syndicated radio show “Altville.”
In 2011, Kelly released her debut solo project, “I Leave You Dreaming,” a collection that seamlessly transitions from ballads to upbeat blues. The album was named one of The Ottawa Citizen’s ten best indie albums of 2011, with David Yasbeck of Ottawa Tonite praising her “smoky, rich voice.”
Together, Kelly, Adam, and Anders participated in the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Tour, traveling across parts of the U.S. and Canada to raise funds, food, and awareness for North American food banks. At just 19, Kelly earned a Gold Record for her contributions to the CP Holiday Train album.
Adam Puddington contributes vocals and bass to the group. Raised in Almonte, Ontario, he self-taught guitar at age twelve, drawing inspiration from artists like Ray Price, Buck Owens, and Neil Young. He spent a decade between Nova Scotia and Almonte, immersing himself in the musical traditions of the Ottawa Valley and the East Coast while collaborating with artists such as The Guthries and Matt Mays. Adam’s solo recordings, “For the Meantime” (2005) and “Back in Town” (2008), received acclaim and substantial radio airplay both in Canada and internationally. A seasoned studio musician, he looks forward to his collaboration with The Claytones and the opportunities ahead on the road and in the studio. As noted by Maverick Magazine, “Combining excitement and honesty, this Canadian singer-songwriter bears the hallmarks of a unique and gifted talent… Adam Puddington’s songs hold a coveted familiarity that sits at the core of the best country music.”
