In 2010, Mr. Chasteen was honored with the College of Fine Arts and Communication Excellence in Teaching Award. He holds the position of Full Professor of Music in Voice and serves as the Vocal Area Coordinator. A specialist in classical voice technique, Terry utilized a recent sabbatical to study the Estill Voice Technique, seeking new insights for teaching classical singing and enhancing his technical expertise in Contemporary Commercial Music styles.

Mr. Chasteen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the West Virginia Institute of Technology and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Indiana University School of Music. His professional career began while he was completing his performance degree, leading him to perform across the United States and internationally in Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. He has been active as both an operatic and concert soloist, collaborating with organizations such as Opera North in New Hampshire, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Indianapolis Opera, Opera Memphis, Abilene Opera (TX), Longview Opera (TX), the West Virginia Symphony, the Huntington Symphony (WV), the Texas Baroque Ensemble, Plano Symphony (TX), Irving Symphony (TX), Valley Symphony Orchestra (McAllen, TX), and the Wausau Symphony (WI). Additionally, he was featured in recital on Wisconsin Public Radio’s Live from the Elvehjem series. His local and regional performances include engagements with Opera Illinois, the Peoria Bach Festival, the Galesburg Community Chorus, Nova Singers (Galesburg), the McDonough Choral Society, and the Southeast Iowa Symphony.

Mr. Chasteen's collaboration with composer Paul Paccione resulted in the creation of "Five Songs from Christina Rossetti," composed for tenor voice, clarinet, cello, and piano. This work was recorded and distributed internationally by New World Records, receiving praise from Music Web International for its “unforced expressiveness and attractive tone,” and Fanfare magazine noted his performance as “expressive and clear toned.”

In 2014, after serving as a guest faculty voice instructor during the summer seasons from 2010 to 2014, Mr. Chasteen was appointed Coordinator of the Professional Training Program for Musical Theatre Interns in collaboration with Theatre West Virginia.

His students at Western Illinois University have achieved significant accomplishments, including performing lead roles in the University Opera Theatre's main-stage and Opera on Wheels productions, serving as concert soloists with university ensembles, winning the School of Music Concerto Competition, and participating in international voice programs and seminars in Italy, Germany, and England. Many have also secured professional engagements with Opera Illinois and the Muddy River Opera (Quincy).

Following their studies under his guidance, students have gained admission to prestigious graduate programs at institutions such as the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, the Boston Conservatory, the New England Conservatory, and the University of Illinois School of Music.
