Fabio Canu is an Italian songwriter known for his extensive live performances across Sardinia.
At the young age of 17, he achieved recognition by winning the musical contest "Ricreazione 00." This victory allowed his band, Sex Wax, to serve as the opening act for the Italian band Marlene Kuntz at the Rockaralis 6.0 music festival, which also featured notable acts such as Hives, Niels Jensen, and Sonic Youth. Following this performance, Canu gained media attention through various interviews and appearances on television shows.
In 2006, he teamed up with classical guitarist Corrado Lotta to form an acoustic country-western duo, which performed at numerous venues.
By 2008, after recording a demo, Canu signed a solo contract with Banana Records2.0 (UNIVERSO). In November of that year, he released his single "Comfort" across major digital platforms including MTV, iTunes, Rossoalice, Mediaworld, Tiscali, and MSN Music. The track garnered significant airplay on both Italian and international radio stations and won the "jamyourself" musical contest. It was also featured on "Emergenti italiani," a program curated by industry experts from EMI.
The following year, Canu released his album "Miles miles away," produced in collaboration with Roberto Azara and distributed by Walkman srl. The album, which consists of ten tracks, became available on all digital music platforms such as iTunes, Mondadori Shop, IBS, Nokia Music, and Kiwer. Remarkably, just one week after its release, "Miles miles away" reached the top of the Mondadori sales chart, where it remained for three months, outpacing both established Italian and international artists. The album received critical acclaim and was recommended by Mondadori and IBS, along with Rosanne Cash, daughter of Johnny Cash. It also received airplay on several Italian and international radio stations.
In May 2010, Canu earned an honorable mention at the Think Tank International Music Award, selected from hundreds of international bands by a jury comprising industry professionals who have collaborated with artists such as Coldplay, Johnny Cash, and The Cure. That same year, he contributed his vocals to Roberto Azara's debut album, featuring songs "Escape from Milky Way" and "Dreaming of You," released by CRONOS. He also recorded a Spanish version of "Miles miles away," promoting his music in various Spanish cities, including Barcelona, Tarragona, Zaragoza, Seville, and Madrid, as well as in French cities such as Perpignan, Avignon, and Narbonne.
Currently, Canu is touring in both Italy and Spain, promoting his music on television and radio, and participating in charity events. He is collaborating with the association ASFARU and Susana Ramos for the "Un Niño una sonrisa" initiative, performing at prestigious venues like the Auditorium of Sant Cugat del Vallès and Teatro La Passió di Olesa de Montserrat.
In February 2011, he performed at the Harlem Jazz Club in Barcelona for the BARNASANTS festival, recognized as the most significant European songwriter festival. He was also invited to the Spanish television program "Para Todos la 2" on RTVE to showcase his album with the song "One Word."
In May 2011, the association "Country la Torre" in Tarragona, Spain, established an official fan club for Canu. Additionally, his song "11:11" reached number 33 on the iTunes Top 100 Country charts in Spain.
In 2013, Canu participated in the renowned talent show "The Voice" (Spain), performing Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama," an episode that attracted an audience of 3.591 million viewers.
