Callous, an Australian Christian metalcore band, was formed in 1995 by Phil Gibson (Drums, Vocals), Craig Holland (Bass, Vocals), and Chris Burton (Guitar). At the time, Phil had just departed from Mortification and sought to explore a sound that was more hardcore and less metal. Craig was actively involved with a local Melbourne punk band, Pet Earwig, while Chris had recently relocated from Lismore, where he had played in the metal band Sanhedrin, to join the doom metal band Paramaecium in Melbourne. The initial lineup recorded three tracks for a Rowe Productions compilation titled 'The Extreme Truth,' which enjoyed worldwide distribution. Two of these tracks were also featured on a U.S. compilation from Rugged Records called Hard and Heavy from Down Under. Shortly thereafter, Chris left the band to focus on Paramaecium, which led to the recruitment of Nick and Ben Tse, who had moved to Australia from Hong Kong for their studies. With a background in pop punk, Nick took over guitar duties, Ben joined on bass, and Craig transitioned to second guitar. At this stage, all members of the band fully embraced their evangelical Christian and straightedge beliefs.

With this new lineup, Callous performed extensively within Melbourne's local all-ages and pub hardcore and punk scenes, sharing the stage with bands such as Mindsnare, Embodiment 12:14, Seraphs Coal, Ultimatum, Thinktank, Force Fed Nine, Ceasefire, Mortification, and No Grace. In 1997, they recorded their debut full-length album, 'In The Memory Of,' which is recognized as one of the earliest full-length metalcore albums produced in Australia. Tracks from this album were included in compilation albums like Pick of the Litter Vol. 2, produced by HM Magazine in the United States, showcasing the best independent bands of the year, as well as another U.S. hardcore compilation titled Blessed Be This Killing.

After this recording, Craig relocated to America to live at the Jesus People Commune in Chicago, where he eventually joined the band Ballydowse. He was succeeded by Lincoln Bowen, who was also the guitarist for the Christian metal band Mortification. Callous continued to perform in Victoria, South Australia, and New South Wales, participating in festivals such as Blackstump and Forest Edge. As Nick and Ben eventually left Australia, they were replaced by Sam "Rusty" Crocket (formerly of 99% Fat) on bass and Brad Marden (from Gauge) on second guitar. This lineup remains active today, with Phil, now known as Curlis-Gibson following his marriage, being the only original and, notably, the only straightedge member.

Over the years, Callous has accumulated several unreleased recordings, and with a full set of new material, they are preparing for a new full-length album in the near future. Callous, also known as Three Times Fire, has consistently been comprised of dedicated evangelical Christians whose beliefs profoundly influence their lifestyle and music. After a period of inactivity in 2003 and 2004, the band has re-emerged under the name Three Times Fire, ready to share their heavy, powerful, and emotive blend of metal and hardcore with the world.
