The Sandals
The Sandals, an early and influential surf rock band, emerged from the United States in 1964. They are best recognized for their contribution to the 1966 surfing documentary, *The Endless Summer*.
The origins of The Sandals trace back to 1962 when drummer Danny Brawner joined a high-school ensemble known as The Twangs, which was led by brothers Gaston and Walter Georis. Heavily inspired by The Ventures, The Twangs laid the groundwork for the core lineup of The Sandals: Brawner on drums, Gaston on keyboards, Walter on rhythm guitar, John Blakeley on lead guitar, and David Blakeley on bass. Shortly thereafter, John Gibson replaced David. The band initially adopted the name The Shadows before ultimately settling on The Sandells, a blend of "Sand" and the popular suffix "-ells." In early 1964, they released their debut album, *Scrambler!*, through World Pacific Records, which facilitated their connection with filmmaker Bruce Brown, who was starting to edit *The Endless Summer*.
Brawner and the Georis brothers approached Brown with the intention of selling him a song for his film. However, Brown was so taken with their music that he opted to feature several of their tracks in the documentary. The agreement stipulated that all profits from the film would go to Brown, while the soundtrack profits would benefit The Sandells. The studio time they gained from this collaboration enabled the band to produce several LPs and singles during this period. Jim King worked closely with them, producing tracks such as "Always" and "All Over Again," which garnered limited national radio play. The band also modified their name slightly to "The Sandals," aligning with the surf music trend. For a time, they toured alongside the film, providing live accompaniment for Brown's narration.
Following the nationwide release of *The Endless Summer*, The Sandals recorded "Endless Summer," one of their early vocal tracks. This song represented a stylistic shift, as they aimed for a sound reminiscent of the Beach Boys, with varying success. They reissued their *Scrambler!* album as *The Endless Summer*, along with new singles under the same title.
In 1967, Dick Barrymore enlisted The Sandals to score his skiing documentary, *The Last of the Ski Bums*. Similar to *Scrambler!*, Danny Brawner's songwriting was prominent, contributing to 10 of the 12 tracks. This album, however, marked Brawner's exit from the group; he declined to relocate from San Clemente, California, to Riverside, California. He was succeeded by Steve Ekwall, who played on the album.
Shortly after releasing *The Last of the Ski Bums*, the band disbanded. The Georis brothers established a restaurant in Carmel, California, while Danny Brawner found work with Mobile Surfboards. John Blakeley continued his music career, joining Stoneground in 1971.
To date, there have been two reunions: the first in 1994, when the Georis brothers and Blakeley reformed the band and produced several albums, including contributions to *The Endless Summer II*. The second reunion occurred in 2002 when the Georis brothers, Blakeley, Gibson, and Brawner performed at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, California, to a full audience.

- Records are packaged with a poly outer sleeve, the LP is placed in a fresh white inner sleeve directly after cleaning, (we include the accompanying sleeve, we send you both), separate from the cover to protect the seams during shipment, and of course, shipped within thick cardboard insert pads in a thick cardboard record mailer.

SEALED/Mint:
Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.
Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.
NM (Near Mint):
Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.
EX (Excellent):
Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.
Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.
VG+ (Very Good Plus):
Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.
Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.
Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.
VG (Very Good):
Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.
Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.
G+ (Good Plus):
Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.
Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.
G (Good):
Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.
Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.
F (Fair):
Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip
Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
