Genesis

Genesis, formed in 1967 at Charterhouse School in Godalming, Surrey, South East England, is recognized as one of the top 30 highest-selling recording artists in history.

The band's early music is noted for its intricate song structures, sophisticated instrumentation, and the theatrical performances of founding member and vocalist Peter Gabriel, who departed from the group on August 15, 1975. Following Gabriel's exit, drummer Phil Collins took over as lead vocalist, a transition that coincided with the departure of guitarist Steve Hackett two years later. This shift led the remaining trio—Phil Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks, and bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford—to explore a more accessible pop-oriented sound, significantly enhancing Genesis' popularity during the 1980s and early 1990s.

In 1996, Phil Collins left to focus on his solo career and other ventures, prompting Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks to continue with new member Ray Wilson, formerly of Stiltskin. This lineup produced one album, 1997's *Calling All Stations*, but the record's poor reception and critical response led to a hiatus for Genesis.

In 2006, after much speculation, Collins, Banks, and Rutherford reunited for the successful *Turn It On Again* tour. Discussions regarding a reunion with former members Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett have continued but remain unfulfilled.

Genesis was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

VG- (Very Good Minus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Many marks, somehow plays without skipping despite significant noise.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, possible large seam splits.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious marks, probably has a skip or jump but no guarantees.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
