The Alan Parsons Project

The Alan Parsons Project

The British rock studio project known for its conceptual focus initially emerged to create an album inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. The project gained widespread recognition for its power ballad "Eye in the Sky" and the instrumental piece "Sirius."

**Official Band Members** ● Alan Parsons – production, engineering, programming, composition, keyboards, guitar ● Eric Woolfson – composition, lyrics, piano, keyboards, vocals, executive production

**Notable Contributors** ● Andrew Powell – composition, keyboards, orchestral arrangements (1975-1990) ● Philharmonia Orchestra ● The English Chorale – choir (1976, 1977, 1982, 1987) ● Ian Bairnson – guitar (1975–1990) ● David Pack – guitar (1976) ● David Paton – bass, vocals (1975–1985) ● Duncan Mackay – keyboards (1977–1979) ● Richard Cottle – keyboards, saxophone (1984–1990) ● Laurence Cottle – bass (1987-1990) ● Stuart Tosh – drums, percussion (1975–1976) ● Stuart Elliott – drums, percussion (1977–1990) ● John Leach – cimbalom, kantele (1976–1978) ● Colin Blunstone – vocals (1978–1984) ● Chris Rainbow – vocals (1979–1990) ● Lenny Zakatek – vocals (1977–1987) ● John Miles – vocals (1976, 1978, 1985, 1987) ● Jack Harris – vocals (1976–1978) ● Dave Townsend – vocals (1977, 1979) ● Elmer Gantry (also known as Dave Terry) – vocals (1980, 1982) ● Graham Dye – vocals (1985, 1990)

The project also featured several non-recurring vocalists, including Arthur Brown (1975), Allan Clarke (1977), Peter Straker (1977), Jaki Whitren (1977), Dean Ford (1978), Clare Torry (1979), Lesley Duncan (1979), Gary Brooker (1985), Geoff Barradale (1987), and Eric Stewart (1990).

A notable instrument developed for the project was the Projectron, an analog sample playback device created by Alan Parsons. This device, which functioned similarly to a Mellotron, included a 24-track tape machine with each playback channel connected to a voltage-controlled amplifier, all activated by the keys of an attached keyboard. The Projectron was utilized on the albums *I Robot*, *Pyramid*, and *The Turn of a Friendly Card*. However, its cumbersome tape preparation and maintenance demands led Parsons to replace it with a Fairlight CMI when it became available. The Projectron was ultimately discarded after 1980, and no photographs of it are known to exist.

Description

The Alan Parsons Project - Tales Of Mystery And Imagination - 1976 Prog - EX - U - Wow, super nice copy!!! Solid EX all the way, high fidelity goodness!  - The record has been cleaned using ultrasonic technology and is in strong EX/EX condition. The cover is crisp, only a VG+ because of age!

  • Record was initially cleaned manually, then ultrasonically cleaned with iSonic Ultrasonic Cleaning prior to grading
  • Records are packaged with a poly outer sleeve, the LP is placed in a fresh white inner sleeve directly after cleaning, (we include the accompanying sleeve, we send you both), separate from the cover to protect the seams during shipment, and of course, shipped within thick cardboard insert pads in a thick cardboard record mailer.
  • We offer discounted shipping on multiple records: calculated shipping for the first one and $2 for each additional one. International Buyers, please read International Buyers paragraph below.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album

International Buyers: We charge $7 for the first record and $2 a record thereafter for Domestic Shipping in the continental United States. This only includes shipping to the International hub here in the United States. Please carefully review the total shipping and VAT charges for your order before committing to a purchase, which will be different from what we are able to view or control on the US eBay site.
