Artie Shaw
Artie Shaw, born on May 23, 1910, in New York City, New York, and passing away on December 30, 2004, in Thousand Oaks, California, was an influential American clarinetist and bandleader.
Shaw made his first public appearance leading his own band in New York City on May 24, 1936. He quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the leading figures in jazz and popular music during the swing era of the late 1930s and 1940s. His last tour as a performing clarinetist with a big band took place in 1950, followed by his final public performances with a smaller group in 1954. In 1955, he recorded his last new material, in which he took on the role of conductor rather than performer.
In the latter part of his life, Shaw focused on writing and various other interests, though he made a return to the recording studio in 1968. During this time, he conducted an album featuring some of his most significant instrumental hits from 1938-39, collaborating with veteran musicians from the Swing Era, many of whom had previously performed with him.
In 1983, Shaw surprised audiences by forming a 16-piece touring big band, led by clarinetist Johnson. He performed with this ensemble until 1986-87, when he officially handed over leadership to Johnson. Notably, Shaw, who was known for his anti-nostalgic stance, aimed for this final band to spotlight jazz and lesser-known works from 1944-45 and 1949, as well as new compositions crafted for the group, many of which remained unrecorded.
Throughout his life, Shaw was married eight times, including to actress Ava Gardner from 1940 and to actress Doris Dowling from 1945 to 1946.

- Records are packaged with a poly outer sleeve, the LP is placed in a fresh white inner sleeve directly after cleaning, (we include the accompanying sleeve, we send you both), separate from the cover to protect the seams during shipment, and of course, shipped within thick cardboard insert pads in a thick cardboard record mailer.

SEALED/Mint:
Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.
Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.
NM (Near Mint):
Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.
EX (Excellent):
Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.
Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.
VG+ (Very Good Plus):
Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.
Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.
VG (Very Good):
Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.
Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.
G+ (Good Plus):
Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.
Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.
G (Good):
Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.
Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.
F (Fair):
Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip
Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
