Little Anthony & The Imperials

Little Anthony & The Imperials

The American rhythm and blues, doo-wop, vocal harmony, and soul group, known for their roots in New York City, was established in the 1950s. They emerged from the groups The Chesters and The Duponts and signed with the End record label in 1958. Their debut yielded significant success, achieving multiple million-selling hits. However, by 1961, the group experienced a decline in popularity, prompting lead singer Anthony Gourdine, also known as Little Anthony, to leave in pursuit of a solo career. In his absence, The Imperials made changes to the group's lineup and recorded several singles for the Carlton label, although these releases did not achieve notable chart success. By the end of 1963, Gourdine returned to the group after facing limited opportunities in his solo endeavors. The classic lineup—comprising Gourdine, Wright, Collins, and Strain—soon regained momentum with a series of hits from 1964 to 1969. While their commercial success diminished in the 1970s and beyond, the group continued to perform with various lineups throughout the decades. In recognition of their contributions to music, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as Performers in 2009.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Many marks, somehow plays without skipping despite significant noise.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, possible large seam splits.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious marks, probably has a skip or jump but no guarantees.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
