Quiet Riot

Quiet Riot is a heavy metal band hailing from Los Angeles, California. The band was established in 1975 by guitarist Randy Rhoads, bassist Kelly Garni, vocalist Kevin DuBrow, and drummer Drew Forsyth. Despite gaining local popularity, Quiet Riot faced challenges in securing a record deal in the United States. Their first two albums, "Quiet Riot" (1978) and "Quiet Riot II" (1979), were released by CBS/Sony in Japan. In 1979, Rhoads left the group to join Ozzy Osbourne's solo band, prompting DuBrow and Forsyth to continue with new members until the band disbanded in 1980. Following this split, DuBrow performed with various musicians under the moniker "DuBrow." Eventually, he reformed the band with guitarist Carlos Cavazo, drummer Frankie Banali, and bassist Rudy Sarzo, who had originally joined Quiet Riot after the recording of their second album. In 1982, DuBrow officially reclaimed the name Quiet Riot. This lineup is often considered the quintessential version of the band.

In 1983, Quiet Riot released "Metal Health," which made history as the first heavy metal album to reach the top of the Billboard charts. However, the band struggled to replicate this success, and internal tensions, exacerbated by Kevin DuBrow's public criticisms of his contemporaries and dissatisfaction with their recording contract, ultimately led to the band's dissolution and DuBrow's dismissal from the group he helped create. Following his departure, the band recruited singer Paul Shortino, but they disbanded again in 1989.

In 1990, DuBrow and Cavazo revived Quiet Riot. By 1997, drummer Frankie Banali and bassist Rudy Sarzo rejoined the group. Though the band continued to produce albums, they never recaptured the commercial success of their 1983 breakthrough. Quiet Riot experienced another split in 2003, but DuBrow and Banali reformed the band in 2004, bringing in bassist Chuck Wright and guitarist Alex Grossi. Tragically, in 2007, DuBrow passed away from a cocaine overdose. Banali expressed his sorrow and indicated he would not continue the band without DuBrow. However, in 2010, he changed his position and rejoined Grossi and Wright to revive Quiet Riot with vocalist Mark Huff, who was later replaced by Scott Vokoun at the beginning of 2012. Vokoun's tenure ended in 2013, leading to the recruitment of Jizzy Pearl, known for his work with Love/Hate and Ratt.

In 2014, a documentary titled "Well, Now You're Here, There's No Way Back" was released, directed and produced by Banali's fiancée. The film chronicled Banali's efforts to reestablish the band, his feelings regarding DuBrow's death, the group’s experiences with Huff, and their experiences with Vokoun. Quiet Riot continued to experience changes in vocalists, with Pearl leaving in 2016, followed by Seann Nichols and former American Idol contestant James Durbin taking the helm before Pearl returned in 2019. In August 2020, Frankie Banali passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Respecting his final wishes, the band announced they would continue with drummer Johnny Kelly. In 2021, former bassist Rudy Sarzo rejoined the band.

SRO Records Record Grading Guide:

SEALED/Mint:

Vinyl: Assumed mint, unverified until opened.

Sleeve: Visible through shrink wrap, graded as above.

NM (Near Mint):

Vinyl: Nearly flawless, with possible minor scuffs or hairlines only visible under strong light.
Sleeve: Appears new, as if freshly printed.

EX (Excellent):

Vinyl: Bright, with minor surface wear and hairlines, not affecting play.

Sleeve: May have faint creases or abrasions, but artwork is clean.

VG+ (Very Good Plus):

Vinyl: Obvious wear, scuffs and hairlines, plays with some noise but no major sound issues.

Sleeve: Worn with creases, noticeable wear, acid deterioration, corner dings, chipping, and possible seam wear.

Here's the typical SRO Records line in the sand. Anything below VG+, unless it's rare, unusual or just awesome, we're NOT going to sell online, much less go through the hassle of an ultrasonic cleaning, we're going to put it in one of many $10 Record boxes that we sell at Record Conventions and events. Some will wind up in the $1 Box, just to get it back out into the world for someone to enjoy or make a planter out of.

VG (Very Good):

Vinyl: Dull appearance with many hairlines and scuffs, somehow plays with persistent noise but no skips.

Sleeve: Worn with possible seam splits and moderate ring wear.

G+ (Good Plus):

Vinyl: Numerous marks and scratches, plays with significant noise but music usually overpowers flaws.

Sleeve: Rough appearance with possible seam splits and water damage.

G (Good):

Vinyl: Copious unforgettable marks, probably a skip or jump.

Sleeve: Heavy ring wear and damage, likely large seam splits or water damage.

F (Fair):

Vinyl: It's round with nearly infinite damage, skipper gonna skip

Sleeve: It's basically what's left of the sleeve for the album
